Focus: The Non-Metals Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Subject Matter Expert (SME) provides specialized knowledge on Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic, thermoplastic technologies, coatings, refractory, and other non-metal applications. This expertise supports the design, fabrication, inspection, fitness for service evaluation, repair, and maintenance of non-metallic equipment.

The Freeport site is the single largest chlor alkali complex in the world with more than 1,000 employees. The chemical products produced at our Freeport location include chlorine and caustic soda, vinyls, epoxies, chlorinated organics, aromatics, bleach, hydrogen, and hydrochloric acid.

Non-Metals FRP Subject Matter Expert Essential Job Functions:

  • In support of Olin's mechanical integrity program (OASIS), perform internal and external inspections of non-metallic equipment to determine fitness for service; recommend appropriate actions based on findings. Develop, evaluate, and improve inspection techniques for FRP and thermoplastic equipment.
  • Provide material of construction recommendations and procedures for repairs and modifications. Specify resinous coating systems for the protection of concrete substrates (secondary spill containment, sumps, etc.). Provide installation / repair oversight to ensure quality application.
  • Troubleshoot failures including inspections, performing physical testing, reviewing operating procedures, etc. Participate in failure analysis for FRP and thermoplastic equipment to establish root cause of failures and optimize corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support for both capital and maintenance projects. Oversee offsite shop fabrication inspection and testing of new equipment to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Create/update/maintain job specifications, procedures, operating discipline, failure analysis reports and other documents as applicable.

Non-Metals FRP Subject Matter Expert Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; two-year degree* or certificate in engineering or technology preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with FRP fabricating techniques and resin/catalyst systems as applicable to chemical process equipment; experience with vessel and piping inspections and evaluations preferred
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook; proficiency in SAP preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as interpersonal capability and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Global Maintenance Work Process preferred
  • Advanced understanding of the uses and applications of thermoplastics, thermoplastics welding and fabrication, design calculations, laminate behavior, mechanical and physical properties of composites, ASME and ASTM standards related to FRP and thermoplastics preferred
  • Prior Olin experience in a relevant position preferred
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) and possess a valid US Driver's license
