The Assistant Breeding Project Lead will take ownership and leadership of 1-2 assigned breeding projects that focus on Syngenta Flowers' 15-year strategy, with the opportunity to learn knowledge and processes from Senior Breeders and Breeders across our global germplasm development team.

Duties:

  • Execute breeding projects in close collaboration with other teams for breeding, germplasm development, marker and trait development as well as operations.
  • Analyze and compile results of field and greenhouse trials to ensure appropriate selection decisions at relevant developmental stages of the breeding projects.
  • Guide the operational staff in carrying out breeding trials in the greenhouse and in the field.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with peers and managers regarding status of projects and work activities, raise awareness of issues that could affect meeting project objectives and business goals.
  • Manage data in breeding and other related databases; collect and analyze Intellectual Property data.
  • Be able to exercise breeding pipeline review and 5Y plan and present in team meetings.
  • Collaborate with other teams to participate on-site events for crops of assigned breeding projects.

Qualifications

  • Masters or BS with equivalent experience in plant breeding, agronomy, biology or horticulture.
  • Specific knowledge in plant genetics, breeding and trialing; broad knowledge in agronomy, crop science, pathology, molecular biology, novel breeding technologies (genomics, software, digital tools, fast cycle schemes, phenotyping platforms, etc.).
  • Practical experience in flower breeding, greenhouse and field trials.
  • Great attention to detail and strong organization capabilities to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Positive, proactive, forward thinking and innovative mindset and agility (communication, seeking solutions).
  • Effective communication with key stakeholders.
  • Able to work independently with minimum daily supervision.

Additional Information

Salary for this role is $73,600 - $110,400 per year.
