PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION: The primary purpose of your job is to insure the safety of MRI patients and others in the MRI environment. You will interview patients using the MRI screening form as your guideline. You will follow up on potential counter indications using MRISafety.com, Hospital Records, Primary Care Records, Medical Manufacturers Websites and other resources. You will inform the patient of the procedure which they are about to experience and address any questions or concerns they may have. You will assist patients to the MRI suite and into position for the MRI exam. You will set up and take down MRI equipment and clean all patient contact surfaces between each case. You will be CPR certified by the American Heart Association and be able to assist in the event of a medical or other emergency. You will respect the confidentiality of patient information. You will assist in patient scheduling and related clerical tasks as needed. You will perform MRI examinations in accordance with MGH protocols and procedures. You will be responsible for making technical and medical decisions appropriate to patient needs and exam quality. You will communicate with referring physicians and MGH radiologists to insure the exam protocol is appropriate. You will adjust technical factors to produce the best quality achievable imaging. You will follow MGH Magnavist dosing guidelines. You will observe Universal Precautions and Sterile Technique when administering contrast. You will make every attempt to reassure and comfort claustrophobic patients. You will endeavor to promote the MVH MRI program through quality patient care and positive technologist-patient relationships.
- DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY: As a MRI Technologist you have the authority to obtain medical histories, to access patient medical information and to release information relevant to the MRI examination to technologists, radiologists and other involved medical personnel. You have the authority to assess patients and make decisions relative to contrast reactions and other medical emergencies. You have the authority to discontinue or cancel exams when patient safety or ability to cooperate is at issue. Maintains a safe and secure MRI environment. Interview patients effectively and thoroughly. Researches medical implants and other potential counter indications. Informs and prepares patient for the examination with sensitivity to the patient's physical limitations, language barriers, cultural identity or any other factors that might impact upon the MRI exam. Communicates patient information effectively to patient coordinator. Addresses patient concerns and helps to reassure patients who are claustrophobic or otherwise anxious about the MRI procedure. Sets up and takes down the MRI coils, cushions, and linens. Sanitizes patient contact surfaces between each case. Assists in patient positioning and transfer of physically limited patients. Maintains CPR certification. Respects patient confidentiality. Assumes scheduling and other clerical functions as needed. Participates in hiring and training of technical and clerical staff. Makes technical Scanner adjustments based on MRI knowledge and generally accepted techniques. Makes appropriate technical and physical adjustments to accommodate Patient needs including age related needs. Communicates with all clients effectively including referring physicians, Radiologists, patients, and their families, MVH nursing staff, and Radiology staff. Troubleshoots Technical problems works with GE support to resolve technical problems. Enters, edits, and completes exams in Meditech, sends images to MGH, and works with MGH help desk and MGH teleradiology department. Maintains a safe and clean MRI unit. Is familiar with emergency codes and procedures. Can operate wall oxygen/suction. Can locate MRI safe blood pressure Cuff and stethoscope.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: * ARRT MRI certification with MA License
- BLS certification.
- IV competent.
EXPERIENCE: * 2 years' experience as an MRI Technologist. * Knowledge of GE 1.5 Tesla scanner and associated software. * Knowledge of MRI safety protocols and procedures. Physical Requirements
