Administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by physician and under the direct supervision of the Director of Wound Care and the Medical Director. Responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support system. Perform necessary maintenance to system daily. Supervises each HBO treatment or ensures that treatments are supervised only by qualified staff that has been trained in hyperbaric medicine. Provides all patient education and patient care in the HBO unit. Serve as Hyperbaric Safety Director and complete the required Safety Director training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Obtain BLS within 30 days of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

1. One (1) year experience in healthcare.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. ACLS

2. Certified Hyperbaric Technologist

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Assists in patient preparation for treatment.

2. Performs patient assessments including vital signs, blood glucose checks and TCPO2 tests.

3. Keeps complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatment documentation.

4. Performs hyperbaric chambers and operations and system maintenance as required.

5. Works closely with the Medical and Nursing Directors to develop and annually review/revise department policies and procedures and operational and maintenance documents.

6. Ensures that Physicians sign all required documents.

7. Works closely with the Program Manager to coordinate and approve all hyperbaric chamber upgrades, modifications, and repairs to hyperbaric systems, including interaction with hospital maintenance, and that all activities are done in accordance with appropriate safety standards. Ensures that the testing of all modifications is performed before manned pressurization.

8. Cross trains to assist in the wound care center.

9. Stocks, orders, and manages supplies in both areas.

10. Supports clinical hyperbaric facility accreditation.

11. Participates in the safety program.

12. Ensures department compliance with NFPA 99, Hyperbaric Facilities, and with unit safety policies and procedures.

13. Ensures department compliance with JCAHO, Department of Health and Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society accreditation standards.

14. Evaluates hyperbaric chamber equipment/supplies used in the chamber and ensures that they meet all safety requirements before they are permitted inside the chamber.

15. Maintains a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility for patients and staff and uses approved and recognized monoplace treatment protocols.

16. Sets up a procedure to assist the Program Manager and Medical Director in reviewing and documenting safety-related events and discusses appropriate events with others to facilitate learning.

17. Participates in hyperbaric chamber safety drills which are tailored to improve staff response to emergency situations.

18. Participates in annual review of safety related events to identify trends and monitor improvement.

19. Fosters a positive relationship between the department and local Fire Marshall, Emergency Medical Services Director, and Pressure Vessel Inspector, as appropriate.

20. Participates and aides in preparing for accreditation as needed.
