Job Summary

The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will provide support and coordination for industry sponsored clinical research, government sponsored clinical research and investigator initiated clinical research for the Stroke Program and other research studies in the Department of Neurology under the direction of the Clinical Research Supervisor.

The CRC will be responsible for identifying patients for research protocols, coordinating and implementing required evaluations for clinical study candidates, monitoring participation of patients in clinical studies, and documenting study information. Additional responsibilities include preparation of all study specific activities to conduct a clinical trial, coordination of research protocols and IRB documentation, assuring proper patient/protocol accrual, data management of study participants and patient information, patient scheduling and records maintenance and archiving.

The CRC will maintain the master study calendar, maintain study specific calendars and notify all investigators of study visits, meetings and research related activities for successful performance of the studies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • CITI Certification for Biomedical Researchers and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) within 1 month of hire.
  • IATA / Dangerous Goods Shipping Certification within 1 month of hire.
  • Laboratory Safety Training Certificate within 1 month of hire.
  • Hazardous Materials Shipping and Handling Certification within 1 month of hire.
  • No minimum education requirements
  • At least one year experience as an Assistant CRC.
  • Experience working with clinical research is required
  • Experience obtaining human research patient consent is required.
  • Data management experience is required.
  • Project management and organizational skills for coordinating all aspects of multiple research studies.
  • Ability to design and maintain an efficient filing and record keeping system.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate many work assignments in the most efficient manner and meet deadlines with frequent interruptions is required.
  • Knowledge and ability to proficiently use a personal computer with Microsoft Word, Adobe, Access and Excel and to organize and maintain extensive electronic files.
  • Ability to review test results or consultation reports for error, omissions or inconsistencies and to notify treating physician for follow up action.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to changing schedules or priorities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate English both orally and in written form.
  • Interpersonal skills to deal in a tactful, courteous, pleasant, and professional manner with patients, visitors, and other clinic staff which includes individuals with various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Competency in critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Ability to handle confidential material is required.
  • Ability to use dictation equipment, printers, copiers and fax machines is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical Research Professional Certification from SoCRA or ACRP is preferred.
  • Experience in a medical or science-related field is desired.
  • Prior experience with IRB protocol submission preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures related to research, human subjects and clinical trials is preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of disease processes and ability to organize and summarize data for clinical research studies is preferred.
  • Ability to understand and use scientific and medical terminology is preferred.
  • Excellent typing skills necessary for a variety of error-free letters/correspondence, documents, forms, etc. is desired.

Department Overview

The Department of Neurology conducts basic and clinical research on the nervous system and provides clinical care for people with neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, epilepsy, movement disorders like Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases, tremor, dystonia, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular conditions, headache and sleep disorders.Our faculty includes leading neuroscientists, who work to expand our knowledge of nervous system function, as well as neurologists and psychologists who provide diagnosis and treatment for adults and children.

We partner with colleagues from throughout the health system and work closely with the Department of Neurological Surgery to provide multidisciplinary team management for neurological disorders. We also offer cutting-edge diagnostic approaches, including advanced neuroimaging technologies and access to trials of new medications and other therapeutic modalities.

Department Specific Job Scope

  • Due to the nature of the research studies, the applicant must have their own transportation, allowing them to drive to/from the hospital during the day/night.
  • Candidate will be required to travel between the hospital campus and the Midtown Clinic on occasion.
  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • Travel for training, conferences, continuing education required
  • General work hours: M-F 6 - 10 hr variable shifts (day/evening, regular start and end time to be determined)

Work Environment
