Department Education - 050
Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

AMNH's Richard Gilder Graduate School's Master of Arts in Teaching Earth Science Residency Program ( MAT ESRP) is seeking a part-time Adjunct Professor to co-teach Developmental Variations: Development, Assessment, and Instruction with a Special Needs Focus, a graduate-level course for urban science teachers. The Adjunct Professor will collaborate and co-teach with a member of the MAT Museum faculty.
Developmental Variations: Development, Assessment, and Instruction with a Special Needs Focus ( EDU 630) is a three-credit course with variable-length class sessions taught in the spring and summer at AMNH. This course is designed for pre-service teachers in urban settings in New York State. Readings, visual and written case studies, discussions, observation, recording and reflection are some of the means by which participants will explore the complexity of human diversity and the many ways that teachers can work strategically and flexibly with all students, balancing theoretical and pedagogical applications through an array of techniques and experiences that will exemplify effective teaching strategies. This is a required course for the MAT Program. It is designed to include 36 hours of onsite teaching at the Museum as well as appropriate prep time.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Co-teach the Developmental Variations: Development, Assessment, and Instruction with a Special Needs Focus course.
