The Department of Neurobiology and Behavior (NBB) is made up of a community of faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows and staff who share a common goal: creating an exciting intellectual environment that optimizes our research and teaching missions. From boosting brain health to fighting Alzheimer's disease and addiction, NBB researchers explore the mysteries and power of the MIND. UCI BioSci was the first institution worldwide to establish a department dedicated to neuroscience, launching it in 1964, five years before the Society for Neuroscience's formation. NBB continues to innovate using techniques such as advanced imaging to probe the mind's extraordinary capacities. The faculty guides students in learning how the brain brings recollections, thoughts, emotions and consciousness into being.
