Medical Assistant - Cardiology
Job Summary The anticipated duration of this assignment is approximately 3 months.
The Medical Assistant III provides patient care and administrative support in a busy cardiology clinic setting under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager and Administrative Director. This role assists with patient rooming, clinical support tasks, vital sign collection, EKGs, administrative functions such as scheduling and referrals, and supports clinic flow and patient care delivery. The Medical Assistant must operate confidently in an advanced Electronic Health Record (EHR) environment and demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Room patients and monitor clinic flow, flexing between clinical and front desk duties as needed
- Perform routine clinical tasks including obtaining vital signs, completing EKGs, and medication reconciliation
- Assist patients in preparation for exams and procedures
- Collect specimens and perform basic lab procedures
- Assemble patient clinical information and referrals; support lab and requisition documentation
- Schedule appointments and manage patient registration and insurance verification
- Answer and triage phone calls, document medication requests, and coordinate provider communications
- Maintain infection control and safety standards; support compliance with Joint Commission and regulatory guidelines
- Stock and maintain clean, well-equipped exam rooms; manage supply inventory
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

Department Description UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program or equivalent experience
- At least 6 months of recent experience in cardiology medical assisting
- Strong computer and keyboarding skills
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain organization, and problem-solve independently
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Must be a non-smoker
- Flexibility to work at various UCSF Medical Center locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (preferred but not required)
- Recent experience performing EKGs within the past year
