How you will make an impact

The Director of Legal Operations leads the strategic, operational, and technological functions of the Legal Department. This role is responsible for optimizing legal service delivery, managing legal technology and budgets, and overseeing litigation and eDiscovery efforts.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Partner with the Chief Legal Officer to define and execute the legal department's strategic roadmap; Lead initiatives to improve legal service delivery, including technology adoption, process improvement, and resource allocation

  • Litigation & eDiscovery Management: Direct all aspects of litigation operations, including case tracking, discovery coordination, and outside counsel management; Lead eDiscovery strategy and execution, including data preservation, collection, review, and production in collaboration with IT and external vendors; Ensure compliance with legal hold obligations and maintain defensible documentation practices

  • Legal Technology & Vendor Management: Oversee implementation and management of legal technology platforms (e.g., CLM and eDiscovery tools); Manage relationships with outside counsel and legal service providers, including performance evaluation and cost control

  • Project & Program Management: Lead cross-functional legal initiatives, including compliance programs, regulatory readiness, and M&A support; Establish project management standards and ensure timely delivery of legal projects

  • Data & Analytics: Develop dashboards and reporting tools to monitor legal department performance, litigation trends, and spend analytics; Provide actionable insights to support legal and business decision-making

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree with 15 years experience required; JD, MBA, or other advanced degree preferred (An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered)

  • Experience with legal hold tools, eDiscovery platforms (e.g., Relativity, Logikcull), and CLM systems

  • Demonstrated expertise in litigation management and eDiscovery processes

  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing legal budgets and vendors

  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (FDA, EMA, HIPAA, etc.)

  • Experience with contract lifecycle management (CLM) tools and legal analytics platforms

  • Experience in the biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry preferred

  • Lean Six Sigma or project management certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus

The most likely base pay range for this position is $180K - $252K per year. Several factors, such as experience, tenure, skills, and particular business needs, will determine an individual's exact level of compensation. Base salary is only one element of employee compensation at Halozyme. Total compensation could include bonuses, sales incentives, and equity awards.
