The Tax Compliance Manager is responsible for assisting the Director, Tax Audits & Planning and VP, Tax Planning and Strategy in handling various indirect (non-income) or direct (income) corporate tax matters, including preparing, reviewing and filing sales, use, property, payroll and other indirect tax filings (indirect) or corporate income, partnership federal and state income tax returns and related tax accounting (direct) required by Maritz Holdings Inc. & Subsidiaries.

30% - Provide primary support for tax related software and related testing, implementation, migration and continual support of various integrated and stand-alone financial systems. Work on cross functional department teams dedicated to ongoing improvement of Maritz' financial systems. Develop and analyze test cases for compliance testing of software.

30% - Review, prepare and file federal, state, local and Canadian indirect tax returns (indirect) or prepare federal and state corporate income and partnership tax returns (direct). Review or prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts. Monitor compliance with policies and procedures making recommendations for necessary updates. Keep abreast of tax related materials for possible impact on Maritz.

20% - Assist in coordinating and supporting governmental tax audits and client tax audits, timely responding to document requests and/or preparing reconciliation schedules. Prepare or assist with preparation of claim for tax refunds, refund requests and amended tax returns. Investigate and respond to various tax notices, correspondence and inquiries for indirect tax types. Perform related research on various corporate tax matters, assist in ad hoc financial analysis, and other special projects in accordance with department objectives.

20% - Indirect: Primary support for resident and non-resident alien U.S. source income, withholding evaluation, analysis, government information reporting, review or preparation of tax deposits, and related general ledger account reconciliations. Field questions from subsidiaries regarding potential impact on sales and use tax compliance, nexus, products, services, vendor and client tax exemption. Consult Director, Tax Audits & Planning and VP Tax Planning and Strategy discussing recommended response. Assist with monitoring sales/use tax policy and procedures making recommendations for necessary updates. OR Direct: Primary support and management of account analysis, coordination of external consultant review and preparation of corporate income and partnership returns. Assist Director, Tax Audits & Planning and VP, Tax Planning and Strategy in monitoring changes in tax law and ensuring the direct tax compliance process is updated for necessary changes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance required or equivalent work experience.

  • Corporate sales, use, property, and/or payroll tax (indirect) OR corporate income and partnership tax (direct) experience in either public accounting and/or industry -5-7 years

  • Hands-on sales/use tax (indirect) OR corporate income/partnership tax (direct) experience coupled with a working knowledge of Vertex (indirect) OR CCH (direct) or comparable tax software - minimum 5 to 7 years.

  • Corporate sales/use (indirect) OR income tax (direct) audit experience - 2 to 3 years

  • Proven tax research techniques. Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to process/perform multiple tasks and manage time to meet deadlines.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel. Vertex Tax Software - Intermediate, required (indirect) or CCH Axcess Tax Software - Intermediate, required (direct). Knowledge of Oracle, desired.
