POSITION SPECIFICS

The Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education (AESE) Department in the College of Agricultural Sciences seeks a highly motivated and experienced Academic Adviser.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide academic advising to undergraduate students in our majors (Agribusiness Management (AGBM); Community, Environment, and Development (CED); and Agricultural Sciences (AGSC)) as well as our varied minors.

  • Assist students in course selection and scheduling, resolve academic problems, monitor degree progress, and guide students in defining academic, career, and personal goals.

  • Assess student needs and make professional referrals.

  • Interpret University policies, procedures, and curriculum for students. Assist students in understanding transfer courses and pre-requisites.

  • Participate enthusiastically in a variety of recruiting events that help draw high-quality and diverse students to our majors.

  • Document notes in the current university advising system (Starfish) and understand and use the university student records system (LionPATH).

  • Work with the Undergraduate Program Coordinators for each major, Advising Supervisor, Faculty, and Staff to maintain the department's undergraduate programs.

  • Assist with projects and committees as assigned.

  • Other duties include meeting with prospective students and families and participating in various college programs such as New Student Orientation (where you'll also work with our AEE - Agricultural and Extension Education students), Accepted Student Programs, and Spend A Summer Day.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Master's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

The successful candidate will have a strong background in academic advising. Competencies critical to success include excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications, strong attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a team, effective problem solving and organizational skills, the use of sound judgement and professionalism, and the ability to balance multiple responsibilities. Enthusiasm in supporting undergraduate students is required.

Knowledge of university policies and procedures, being competent in using Penn State-specific programs/computer applications is preferred.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $67,300.00.
