Job Summary

In this role, you will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure electrical designs comply with all regulations and standards.

This position requires a SmartPlant 3D Designer who will prepare electrical 3D designs as well as 2D electrical AutoCAD and SmartSketch designs to support new facility infrastructure design for DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.


Major Responsibilities

  • Lead or administer work of electrical designers and drafters for a business line technology, including the preparation of layouts and construction drawings.
  • Develop designs for complete and complex electrical engineering systems with minimum supervision.
  • Ensure electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Prepare or assist with the preparation of material requisitions and bid evaluations.
  • Monitor and check work for compliance with approved electrical design standards.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and prepare design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.
  • Coordinate or make jobsite visits to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.
  • Support design development of electrical systems and equipment for the Sentinel project by preparing models, drawings, and evaluations.
  • Support, coach, and train less experienced designers.
  • Model electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, lighting, and receptacles in a Smartplant 3D model environment.
  • Create bill of materials and drawing installation details using SmartSketch and AutoCAD.
  • Perform calculations utilizing AGI 32 and ETAP for lighting and ground grid layouts.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering department to establish and verify design/project requirements.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Requires AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 7-8 years of experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must be a United States citizen and able to complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.


Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge & application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE Standards.
  • Experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program.
  • Ability to collaborate well with other disciplines and manage conflicting deadlines and multiple tasks.
  • Hands-on and advanced experience using Smartplant 3D, SmartSketch, and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to express technical issues clearly.
  • Broad knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and electrical systems.
  • Previous experience with DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA projects.
