Project Overview
Our client is on the Northrop Grumman Corp. team preparing to deliver the U.S. Sentinel system of inter-continental ballistic missiles and launch infrastructure. Sentinel is a vital U.S. Air Force program designed to modernize the nation's aging force of inter-continental ballistic missiles, which make up the ground element of the nuclear deterrent. As part of the Northrop Grumman Sentinel nationwide team, Bechtel will provide launch system design, construction, and integration. A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. Job Summary
In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project's electrical engineering aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure uniquely complex requirements of a project's electrical engineering aspects are met. This position is located in Ogden, UT, a vibrant city surrounded by stunning mountain vistas, offering a perfect blend of urban and outdoor lifestyles. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role will specifically support the USAF Sentinel program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase.
Major Responsibilities
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard electrical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria for a small size project or assignment in support of a global business unit or staff group.
- Design, develop, modify, and evaluate components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity.
- Prepare or assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
- Coordinate electrical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.
- Provide assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project electrical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
- Complete electrical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
- Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
- Plan and conduct independent electrical work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of electrical engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit.
- Develop conceptual designs for electrical engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements.
- Support preparation of estimates, staffing needs, and schedules.
- Coordinate with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of electrical aspects of the work.
- Support design development of Electrical systems and equipment design for the Sentinel program project by preparing engineering studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, and evaluations.
- Work with and mentor junior electrical engineers as well as work with other technical disciplines in a team environment.
- Develop new design drawings using Autocad such as single lines, panel schedules, schematics, cable block diagrams, grounding, lightning protection, cathodic protection, and more.
- Perform power system analysis modeling and calculations utilizing ETAP.
- Perform equipment sizing calculations such as medium voltage utility and low voltage transformers, panel boards, surge protective devices, uninterruptable power supplies, and battery sizing calculations.
- Develop equipment and material specifications utilizing the software SpecsIntact.
- Develop procurement documentation (written scopes of work) as well as perform supplier proposal evaluations.
- Review vendor submittals and integrate information into the design.
- Coordinate systems requirement development and verifications with Systems engineering and the client.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-13 years of relevant work experience depending on level.
- Must be a United States Citizen.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, drawings, calculations, and specifications for Electrical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building Electrical systems.
- Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
- Experience with Microsoft office programs, and other common computer programs.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.
- Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
- Broad knowledge of the application of Electrical engineering design principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university with relevant experience.
- Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Electrical Engineering).
- Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
- Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
- Experience executing engineering design with Smartplant 3D.
- Experience performing calculations with ETAP.
- Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact.
- Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
- Secret clearance is preferred, but not required.
