Overview

Position will provide support to students with disabilities transitioning to the college environment and oversee implementation of disability-related accommodations. Position is a part-time role that will work 27 hours per week.

This position will be open until filled, with a first review date of June 9, 2025. After this date, the recruitment may close without further notice. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.



Responsibilities

Coordinate the transition of students with disabilities to college environment

    Administer accommodated placement tests.
  1. Provide information to potential students, parents, and community agencies regarding admissions process, documentation requirements, and accommodation process.
  2. Develop and facilitate workshops for student transition to college environment.
  3. Follow up with referred and new students to encourage utilization of services and schedule accommodation planning appointments. Create and maintain a referral list.

Provide administrative support to Access and Accommodations Office

  1. Maintain materials for distribution to high schools, agencies, and potential students.
  2. Respond to inquiries by current students, perspective students, parents, and/or staff members.
  3. Compile, maintain, and submit data related to grant activities.
  4. Collaborate with Access & Accommodations Coordinator to develop and implement procedures, create forms, and fulfill grant requirements.
  5. Document within the case management system interactions with/about students.
  6. Follow FERPA guidelines and maintain confidentiality of student records.

Oversee testing accommodations

  1. Review testing accommodation request forms, policies, and procedures with students.
  2. Contact instructors, review process, and coordinate specific testing details for students.
  3. Schedule appointments and administer/proctor accommodated classroom and placement tests.
  4. Maintain database related to test requests, room usage, instructor contacts etc.
  5. Notify proctors at satellite campuses of student requests and student accommodations.
  6. Collaborate with Testing Center staff to develop policies and procedures.
  7. Scribe tests as needed.

Maintain adaptive equipment/assistive technology

  1. Evaluate need for, demonstrate, and train students on use of assistive technology.
  2. Research and procure new equipment and software through vendors, conferences, and other sources as needed.
  3. Troubleshoot issues with adaptive equipment/software in collaboration with IT department.
  4. Remain current with adaptive technology and software trends.
  5. Oversee process for checking out items to students and maintain inventory.

Assist with implementation of accommodation plan

  1. Procure, produce, distribute, and monitor use of alternative media.
  2. Maintain inventory of digital media.
  3. Recruit, train, and monitor classroom note takers.

Provide retention activities

  1. Provide students individualized instruction on note taking, reading, testing, study, organizational, and other academic strategies.
  2. Act as point of contact for students who need referral to advising, Financial Aid Office, or other resources.


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Strong communication skills including verbal and written.
  2. Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and work independently.
  3. Strong computer skills.
  4. Understanding of adaptive technology to assist students seeking accommodations.
  5. Ability to work with diverse populations.
  6. Understanding of FERPA & HIPAA as it relates to working with students with disabilities; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

Education & Experience:

  1. Associate Degree in education or related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  2. Two years of professional work experience in human services, disability services, or related area.
