Southern Cancer Center is Hiring!

We are seeking a dedicated Telephone Operator to join our team at our Providence Hospital office. This role is crucial in ensuring seamless communication between patients and medical staff.

Position Overview:

Scope:
Under direct supervision, this role manages a comprehensive range of telephone switchboard tasks, including call triaging and message relay. The position also involves clerical duties as needed and acts as a vital liaison between patients and medical staff. All responsibilities are conducted in alignment with the US Oncology Compliance Program, including adherence to the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer all incoming calls courteously and efficiently, connecting callers to the appropriate extension.
  • Accurately take and relay messages in a timely fashion.
  • Respond promptly to emergency and urgent patient calls, directing them to clinical staff when necessary.
  • Perform operator functions such as triaging calls, connecting and transferring calls, setting up conference calls, instructing users on telephone procedures, and reporting any telephone or equipment issues.
  • Provide a friendly and helpful phone interaction for all callers.
  • Manage the opening and closing of the switchboard.
  • Oversee the in-house paging system.
  • Execute clerical duties as assigned to support departmental workflow.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • This is an entry-level position requiring 0-3 years of experience, preferably in a medical setting.

Physical Demands:

  • The role involves sitting for prolonged periods, as well as stooping, bending, and stretching for files and supplies.
  • Occasionally lift files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity is needed to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier, and other office equipment.
  • Vision must be correctable to 20/20, and normal hearing range is required for telephone communication.

  • This position is based in an office setting with frequent interactions with patients and the public.
