LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE, ADMINISTRATION DIVISION, KNOX COUNTY Qualifications Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing or related field and experience equivalent to two years of full-time professional auditing, accounting, criminal investigation, financial management, or experience as an attorney. Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying experience in professional accounting and/or auditing may substitute for the required education to a maximum of four years. Substitution of Graduate Education or License for Experience: Graduate course work credit received from an accredited college or university in accounting, auditing, criminal justice, criminology, law or related field may substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis to a maximum of one year (e.g.,24 graduate semester hours (36 graduate quarter hours) in one or a combination of the above listed fields may substitute for one year of the required experience) or a current license as a certified public accountant may substitute for one year of experience. Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class must: 1. Be willing to and able to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons. Overview Under general supervision, is responsible for performing criminal tax investigative work, and professional auditing work of average difficulty involving the audit of individual and corporate tax documents and records to determine tax liability; and performs related work as required. This is the working class in the Revenue Special Agent Criminal Tax sub-series. Employees in this class are expected to apply knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and auditing and investigate suspected cases of tax fraud, including case preparation and testifying in court. As investigative knowledge and proficiency increases employees perform independently on assigned cases. This class differs from that of the Revenue Special Agent Criminal Tax Advanced in that employees in the latter class perform at the advanced working level under general supervision. An applicant appointed to this class must successfully complete a prescribed course of instruction at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy or the equivalent. Inadequate or marginal performance during the training course will result in automatic demotion or termination. Responsibilities 1. Conducts forensic tax audits of individuals or businesses.
