Job Summary

The laboratory coordinator supports the Physical Science and Engineering division by obtaining, organizing, preparing, setting up, and maintaining laboratory materials. The Physical Science department includes the subject areas of Chemistry, Engineering, Machine Learning, Astronomy, Geology, and Physics. The coordinator may provide lead direction/ or supervise non-exempt full time regular staff. Coordinator performs fully-proficient professional level tasks related to instructional services, curriculum development and program coordination requiring independent evaluation and analysis of issues and judgment to select and apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria to resolve problems and make recommendations.

The coordinator is responsible for maintaining supplies and equipment, as well as establishes and maintains equipment maintenance and inventory records. The coordinator adheres to and ensures compliance with applicable policies and procedures ensuring laboratory safety.

Essential Functions
  • 25% - Plans, organizes, and assigns the work of staff if serving as a lead worker; plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of staff if assigned supervision. Participates in hiring, discipline and termination activities if assigned to supervision
  • 25% - Researches information related to curricula and associated materials and assists with curricula design and development which includes purchases and maintaining; chemical inventory, equipment, and software.
  • 10% - Serves as a liaison to the Instructional Service Coordinators Sr, other programs, departments/divisions, faculty, and related constituencies
  • 10 % - Collects, monitors and evaluates data; prepares reports, proposals and program materials. Assists in preparing, administering and collecting assessment information
  • 10% - Provides guidance, process support and academic direction to participating students; provides program instruction, as assigned
  • 10% - Provides scheduling and coordination of facility space and resources for classes and events. Assists in negotiating facilities and services with vendors, as assigned. Assists in preparing and administering assigned budgets.
  • 10% - Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related program area, and one (1) full-time equivalent year of program coordination experience.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Previous experience in a college laboratory setting.
  2. One (1) year or more of experience preparing college-level laboratories.
  3. Prior coursework in astronomy, geology and/or physics. Coursework must be provided with application by providing unofficial transcripts.
  4. Experience working with supervisor and other staff members to coordinate efforts, including follow through on assigned tasks to ensure that critical deadlines are met.
  5. Experience with inventory support, such as monitoring, purchasing, and receiving of lab supplies.
  6. Experience in Lab Safety, HAZWOPER, OSHA, DOT, RCRA.
  7. Experience in Chemical Inventory, calculating usage/waste.


Special Working Conditions
  • Exposure to chemicals, fumes, particulates and organisms that may present health hazards if not handled according to safety protocols are possible.
  • May require lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
  • May be required to work at multiple campus locations and work outdoors.
  • Evening and weekend hours may be required.
