Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery
Job Summary Join our dynamic and highly skilled Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery outpatient team at UCSF. As a Nurse Practitioner in this role, you will work under the supervision of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, providing comprehensive care in alignment with UCSF Medical Center policies and ambulatory care standards.
The Nurse Practitioner will function independently and collaboratively to deliver high-quality care for patients with complex otolaryngologic needs. Responsibilities include managing chronic and acute conditions, implementing specialty care protocols, and performing approved outpatient medical and surgical procedures. All practice will occur within the scope defined by standardized procedures and applicable regulations.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a California Board of Registered Nursing-approved Nurse Practitioner program with a master's or doctoral degree aligned with the adult surgical patient population.
- Minimum of one (1) year of Nurse Practitioner experience.
- At least one (1) year of adult surgical experience within the past 2 years.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Judgement skills to effectively meet the needs of patients
- Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role
- Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by health care providers and team members
- Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider
- Submit health plan (Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial for all APPs; also, CCS for pediatric providers) enrollment by first clinical day
- At all times, must adhere to the UCSF Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Code of Conduct, PRIDE values, and applicable medical center/campus/departmental policies and procedures
- At all times, must adhere to all UCSF policies regarding HIPPA, privacy, communication, documentation, encounter closure, and billing
- Mandatory attendance at the Office of Advanced Practice Providers Orientation Sessions
- Mandatory attendance at the APP Onboarding Committee APP Onboarding Series
- This position requires flexibility for the APP to work at all UCSF Health facilities/locations
- Performs other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) or more years of experience in surgical oncology.
- Three (3) years of experience in an academic medical center.
- Enrollment in or completion of an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage wound care
License/Certification California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
- Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
- Accepted Certifications for this position: Adult Outpatient (A-GNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C, GNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC)
- Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
- Complete a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.
- Complete Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
- Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
- Current AHA BLS.
- Current AHA ACLS.
- State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.
- Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
