Department:Fire Rescue Department Organizational Unit:Fire Operations Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time CLOSE DATE: 05/21/2025 $21.84 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Central Area/Rockledge/Timothy J. Mills Fire Rescue Center. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and may include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Performs experienced paraprofessional work providing administrative support to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) section of Brevard County Fire Rescue (BCFR). Work includes serving as a liaison between the EMS Office and field personnel, the County Attorney's Office, the Medical Examiner's Office and law enforcement investigators, Brevard County Risk Management, the contracted Brevard County Fire Rescue Medical Director, attorneys and court officials, outside agencies, and members of the public; responding to subpoenas and other legal inquiries, public records requests, citizen complaints, and other information requests; conducting research; reviewing legal documents, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) policies and procedures, medical protocols, training materials and evaluations, and other official documents; and coordinating and scheduling meetings and taking and transcribing minutes. REQUIREMENTS: Two (2) [60 semester or 90 quarter hours] years of college -level coursework in Public Administration, Business Administration, Emergency Medical Services Fire Science, Legal Studies, Political Science, Organizational Management, or a closely related field PLUS three (3) years of progressively responsible experience working with legal and/or medical documents or as a legal secretary, medical secretary, paralegal, administrative support function, or a closely related field. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Experience managing public records is preferred. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Section 508 document compliance experience is preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain within sixty (60) days of employment, a current valid Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Compliance certification from an approved agency and maintain said certification during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a valid Florida Notary Public certification and maintain said certification during the term of employment. Must successfully complete, within one (1) year of employment, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, and ICS-800 training courses. Must be able to successfully pass a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check administered by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
