Summary of Objective:

The QC Microbiology Intern reports directly to the Associate Director of QC Microbiology. The position is a learning experience, and the candidate will learn various pharmaceutical microbiology techniques and concepts, including lab techniques, test protocols, investigations, and data analysis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The essential duties and responsibilities include the following but other duties may be assigned.

  • Work under the direction of QC Microbiology and/or Operations Subject Matter Experts to identify and eliminate root causes of microbial recoveries from aseptic manufacturing personnel

- Compile and analyze data from various sources in order to confirm or refute theories about root cause.

- Assist with developing and executing protocols to test specific theories about root cause.

- Present to teams on a routine basis to present data and experimental conclusions, and to determine future work.

  • Perform basic microbiological techniques as required to support laboratory improvement studies.
  • Perform data evaluation in support of environmental monitoring trend reporting.
  • Use good manufacturing documentation practices to ensure accurate and compliant records
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to walk and drive between locations
  • Physically able to wear laboratory protective gowning and equipment, including but not limited to gowning, goggles, and protective gloves
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

  • Works closely with Quality Control, Operations, and Quality Assurance staff

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for the stated position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • No formal experience required - previous experiences in college academic labs or independent research is preferred
  • Currently enrolled in Science-based undergraduate degree (chemical/biomedical engineering, chemistry, biology, microbiology preferred).
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of natural sciences, scientific method, and statistics
  • Able to follow written and verbal instruction
  • Organizational and prioritization skills
  • Good oral communication skills are required; proficiency in English language
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision
