Job Summary:

The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) reviews, evaluates, develops, maintains, and implements databases and database applications for Langley FCU systems. The DBA is responsible for performance, integrity, and security of the database environment and accompanying servers. They will troubleshoot and resolve database related issues, identify data sources, create system/user documentation, and writes/modifies code for database access.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:



  • Architects, installs, creates, maintains, troubleshoots, and upgrades all Microsoft SQL databases and database servers and application tools.
  • Assisting the software development teams by writing high performance, low impact SQL code and optimizing existing SQL where possible.
  • Makes recommendations on database infrastructure architecture in concert with IT infrastructure and networking teams.
  • Analyzes and designs storage requirements for the database system.
  • Ensures confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all data on the managed database servers.
  • Knowledge of database automation tasks.
  • Maintains database standards; writes database documentation, procedures, and definitions.
  • Monitors and optimizes the performance of the SQL database environment. Responds to issues in a timely manner or as defined by established SLA's or KPI's.
  • Monitors and verifies SQL licensing for annual renewals and true ups.
  • Monitors enterprise scheduling tool and responds to all alerts or notices as appropriate.
  • Performs programming and/or custom report writing utilizing standard database development tools such as Visual Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Reporting Services or Tableau.
  • Controls and assigns privileges so that each end user can access only the authorized part of the database. Provides authentication and authorization to the end users and establishes security of the database environment.
  • Performs and verifies integrity of database backups and recovery plans - including administering and maintaining the Disaster Recovery site database servers and applications.
  • Performs research and analysis into the nature and resolution of any/all database system problems.
  • Assists in the specification of test procedures and controls for new databases, systems, or solutions. Prepares test data, analyzes test results, and documents test outcomes.
  • Participates in special projects for department and enterprise.
  • Communicates regularly and works closely with other internal I.T. groups to coordinate database/system administration activities.


Qualifications:



  • Four-year degree in information technology, computer science, or related technical field or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a complex, large multi-database environment required.
  • Technological certifications related to the database administration required.
  • Demonstration of strong knowledge of enterprise database administration required.
