POSITION PURPOSE: The Lab Supervisor will play a critical role in leading robust analytical test methods to support R&D investigations into formulation development activities, and quality control testing of existing or new functional fluids and components in the automotive industry. This position is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, including quality control testing and analysis of materials and products to meet industry standards. The Lab Supervisor will lead a team of technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure accurate results and adherence to safety protocols. Additionally, this role involves collaborating with other departments to implement improvements based on lab findings, ultimately contributing to product development and quality assurance. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the lab.
DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages lab team along with scheduling, coordination, and execution of all sample orders through the lab to include maintaining data continuity within Intellect QMS
- Develop and validate analytical test methods for testing our automotive and industrial functional fluids, for UHPLC, IC, ICP, FTIR, SEM, and GC/MS methods, which will include quantification of the base fluid and additive package
- Preparing technical reports for both internal and external customers or stakeholders, which will cover validation of refined test methods and analytical investigations into quality related concerns
- Experience in creating test methods and validation in accordance with ISO 17025
- Execute new analytical techniques for improved quality control within our manufacturing plants
- Calibrating, and maintaining equipment for analytical development activities
- Observe and comply with company standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Observe and revise company health and safety policies specific to the lab and ensure all users follow those standards
- Update and maintain the lab safety plan and SDS manual with our EHS Team
- Maintain consumable items and re-stock levels within the lab, which includes tracking consumable cost as a function of supplier and work with the EHS team to document all chemicals within the facility
- Ensure all users of the lab are wearing the appropriate PPE
- Maintain lab cleanliness and organization per 5S methodology
- Develops KPI, and provides quarterly reports on the lab's throughput, and asset utilization
- Additional duties to be assigned based on organizational needs and market conditions
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry or equivalent
- Knowledge of physiochemistry.
- Experience using UHPLC, ICP, IC and GM/MS equipment and methods required
- Strong Knowledge and experience within an ISO 17025 lab
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability and self-starter
- Able to manage multiple projects and varying tasks simultaneously
- 4+ years of experience in a laboratory environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of standing or sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
