Description

Hourly: $16.50 - $16.75 per hour

Position Summary:

Children's Aid runs a summer day camp in Chappaqua, NY that brings together children from Manhattan, the Bronx, and Westchester. Campers and staff are bused to and from the camp each day. The purpose of this camp is to provide traditional summer camp activities (swimming, arts & crafts, sports, horsemanship, etc.) in the context of relationship building. The children who attend this camp are from different socio-economic, cultural, and racial backgrounds, and range in age from 6-13.

The Assistant Counselor will work under the Head Counselor and Division Leader to set a positive tone, monitor children, ensure safety of the children, and lead activities during the camp day.

Essential Duties:



  • Monitor the children during the day
  • Address behavior and make changes to ensure the safety, well-being, and
    enjoyment of the campers.
  • Keep the Head Counselor and Division Leader informed of the status of the group.
  • Inform the Head Counselor and Division Leader of any problems that need
    addressing in the children's' behavior or in programming.
  • Escort campers from activity to activity, to the infirmary, office, etc.
  • Help campers keep track of their belongings.
  • Participate in all camp activities with the children to increase their enthusiasm and
    enjoyment of the activities.
  • Lead activities with the children to help them build relationships with each other
    reinforcing names, good manners, and inviting different children to play and work
  • Ensure that attendance is taken each day.
  • Serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
  • Observe all camp policies and procedures and role model for the children all camp
    rules of conduct that apply to them.
  • Attend 3 days of training and orientation prior to camp.
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Complete all paper work as needed.
  • Fulfill other job activities and duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Prior experience working with children in a camp or after-school setting
  • Must be at least 16 years of age by 6/15/2025
