DESCRIPTION

The Patient Transport Technician supports clinical workflow by pick-up and transport conscious, semi-conscious, and/or unconscious hospital patients to and from treatment areas, and nursing units via wheelchair, gurney, or bed. This role also transports discharged patients to the pharmacy and to waiting automobiles.

Primary functions include: lifting, turning, and transferring for patients requiring moderate to total assistance. Other required duties may include the transport of x-rays, medical records, oxygen bottles, Video Swallow Chair, and other materials as needed by nursing units.Patient Transport Technicians are also responsible for moving empty beds, beds with mattresses, and standalone mattresses. These items may be transferred between nursing units or from a central storage area to various units as needed. The movement of beds and mattresses is a regular part of the patient escort's duties and will be integrated into their daily responsibilities.

This role also enhances transport efficiency by collaborating with Transport Call Center, Nursing units and Imaging modalities on transport job assignments. Troubleshoots transport equipment issues and submits IT, Bio Med and Facilities service requests as needed. Must have documented competency on Safe Patient Handling and Patient Lift equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current CPR (BCLS).

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in six (6) months of hire date.

  • Must have worked 12 months as a UCSD Patient Escort or Patient Transport Technician 1 or have two (2) years experience of inpatient transport at an outside institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Highschool diploma and /or equivalent experience / training.

  • Six (6) months experience transporting patients in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or as an EMT.

  • Six (6) months experience in healthcare/emergency/rescue field.

  • Possess outstanding customer service skills.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift over 50 pounds and able to push/pull a gurney or bed with patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
  • Must be able to work various locations and hours (including overtime and weekends) based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $48,045 - $59,759 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $23.01 - $28.62

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
