Compensation

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is$78,200.00 to$130,400.00.

Individual base pay compensation will depend, in part, on factors such as geographic work location and relevant experience and skills.

Position Details:

You will provide Engineering expertise in the development of product evaluations and testing of current and prospective supplier's products to ensure compliance with all quality, performance, safety and reliability standards. Working in a dynamic and fast paced engineering and business environment, you will also provide technical support to all Private Brand internal business partners.

You will report to the Manager, Category Engineering.

This is a hybrid position based in Lake Forest 3 days a week.

You Will:

  • Evaluate moderately complex electro-mechanical industrial products(Motors, Pumps and HVAC Equipment) for compliance with performance, quality, reliability, and safety following specifications dictated by Grainger and government agencies. Approve production samples.
  • Develop and submit for approval engineering scope and test plans, product evaluation reports, technical specifications and quality assurance sheets per project schedule.
  • Implement plans and business strategies to meet program/project requirements and deadlines.
  • Communicate and partner with Supplier Management and Merchandising by supporting their needs for technical product understanding.
  • Develop appropriate testing and evaluation methods to recommend product, technology, quality and cost improvements. Create documents and test reports on CI plans for category specific products.
  • Support value engineering efforts.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to interdepartmental groups regarding product work and process training.
  • Analyze product warranty returns and create monthly reports.
  • Review technical documents for content and safety information, such as owner's manuals, product bulletins, catalog copy, and package labeling.
  • Prepare samples and technical sales presentation materials for product line reviews, patent reviews, and for Grainger customers to make final purchasing decisions.
  • Create program specific recommendations for engineering test equipment, supplies, and third-party test services. Identify and recommend lab equipment and test provider sources and costs.

You Have:

  • A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a technical discipline is required. Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering areas of study preferred.
  • Experience with electromechanical products, including electric motors, pumps, and/or HVAC products.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years relevant work experience.
  • Engineering hands-on skills are required in troubleshooting, product analysis and failures.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel (can maintain complex spreadsheets), PowerPoint and Access, including the ability to write queries,create charts and graphs, and presentations. Power BI and Think cell a plus
  • Experience procuring, reading, understanding, and interpreting technical reports, specifications, test data, patents and to be able to translate technical information into useful laymen's terms.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of different hand tools, power tools and electrical testing equipment.
  • Able to travel 5-10% of time, with some international travel possible.
  • Knowledge of applicable compliancy bodies and requirements such as Underwriter's Laboratories, ETL, DOE, Canadian Standards Association, etc.
