Essential Job Duties |
Join the Wilson College of Textiles as our Business Manager and play a vital role in supporting the financial and operational success of our college. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration, you'll lead a dedicated team of 3-4 professional staff responsible for managing essential business functions.
As Business Manager, you'll oversee the day-to-day operations of the college's business office, which handles procurement, accounts receivable, travel administration, service center operations, budgeting, and accounting. You'll manage all non-sponsored college funds-including state appropriations, receipts, F&A, auxiliary, student fees, foundations, and gifts-and ensure smooth coordination with human resources, the research office, and departments and centers across the college.
Essential Job Duties:
- Manage budgets and oversee maintenance of financial records for all non-sponsored fund sources in the college, including coordination of monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year-end close; ensure compliance with university rules and regulations based on the unique requirements of various fund sources.
- Manage financial reporting for departments, responsible persons, and college leadership.
- Oversee financial processing and approvals for key business functions such as purchasing (PCard, marketplace, and other purchase orders), accounts receivable, journals, transfers, and reimbursements.
- Coordinate with college HR, research office, unit leaders, and supervisors to ensure graduate assistantships, student labor, and employee appointment terms and funding distributions are accurate and appropriate within available budgets; manage current year personnel costs and forecast future year personnel budgets; oversee financial approvals of HR appointments and distributions.
- Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making.
- Oversee service center administration for the college, including establishing new service center rates, reviewing and renewing existing rates, and ensuring compliance with university and federal rules and regulations; oversee the college's tracking and billing for all service center contracts.
- Oversee travel administration including travel authorizations and reimbursements.
- Develop and maintain documentation to support clear and transparent operating procedures within the college.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Master's degree and 3+ years of relevant business experience; or bachelor's degree with at least 1 year of supervisory experience and 5+ years of relevant experience. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Clear and effective communicator, both in writing and in conversation, with a willingness to learn and adapt communication styles as needed.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage tasks and timelines in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on building positive relationships and delivering excellent service to colleagues and partners.
- Proficient in Microsoft and Google Workplace applications (word/doc, excel/sheets, etc.)
- Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and university rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Proven experience preparing analytical or interpretive financial reports to support data-driven decisions.
- Background in higher education administration or working within similarly complex organizational structures.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as PeopleSoft, Ellucian Banner, or comparable platforms.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and VBA scripting.
