POSITION SUMMARY

Reviews, investigates, processes and settles bodily injury, property damage and subrogation claims filed against and on behalf of the Authority.

Qualifications

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Reviews assigned bodily injury and property damage claims to extract information and conduct comprehensive investigations. Conducts investigations by interviewing and/or securing written, voice recorded or transcribed sworn statements of CTA employees, witnesses and claimants; corresponding with witnesses and claimants; reviewing police and other pertinent records, such as claimant medical and employment records and CTA record; inspecting accident scenes and vehicles involved and visiting locations and entities outside of the office to ascertain pertinent information.
  • Analyzes and evaluates the veracity of statements made by witnesses, claimants and Authority employees, including, but not limited to bargaining unit employees, and other evidence pertaining to the causation, nature and effect of the bodily injury and/or property damage claims.
  • Determines the liability exposure of the Authority and its employees, including but not limited to bargaining unit employees.
  • May be required to review medical records of Authority employees, bargaining unit and exempt, to determine the nature and extent of medical treatments and the value of subrogation amounts claimed by the CTA for payments to or on behalf of injured employees for purposes of collecting such subrogated amounts.
  • Analyzes and evaluates the veracity of all statements made by witnesses, claimants and Authority employees, including but not limited to bargaining unit employees, and other evidence pertaining to property damage claims the CTA may have under comparative negligence laws.
  • Assists attorneys assigned to unsettled suits.
  • Prepares and/or dictates detailed reports to effect the investigation, analysis and settlement of claims.
  • May be required to perform the duties of the Claim/Accident Clerk, Claim/Law Coordinator and Claim Representative (Property Damage).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS



  • Must be proficient in identifying CTA liability and assessing the reasonableness of property damage and personal injury claims against the CTA.
  • Required to have experience and be competent in the performance of functions related to conducting interviews, taking telephone reports and statements from CTA personnel and/or the general public relative to accidents and claims involving catastrophic loss, personal injury and property damage.
  • Must be competent in the collection, organization and recording of data.
  • Required to possess a college degree or a combination education, training and experience appropriate to this position.
  • Must possess experience in the processing, investigation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of vehicle physical damage claims, non-auto property damage claims and personal injury claims.
  • Must have experience in negotiating settlements with attorneys and claimants in catastrophic loss personal injury and property damage claims.
  • Required to possess experience in conducting and coordinating comprehensive confidential investigations in catastrophic loss personal injury and property damage.
  • Must possess experience in the review and interpretation of medical records, reports and data in catastrophic loss personal injury claims.
  • On call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES



  • Must have a knowledge of the evidence needed to support the settlement of property damage and personal injury claims.
  • Required to possess knowledge of the Chicago metropolitan area in order to identify geographic locations.
  • Required to possess a valid driver's license and furnish an automobile to conduct business relative to claim work. Must meet automobile insurance requirements as set forth by the Authority.
  • Required to have a knowledge of the major component parts of buses and automobiles.
  • Must write and express oneself in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner.
  • Must possess a temperament suitable for maintaining amiable relations with Authority personnel and outside contacts.


WORKING CONDITIONS



  • Usual office working conditions.
  • On call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Exposed to existing weather conditions when working in the field.

Rate to be determined by applicant's entered service date and service date in union jurisdiction of this classification.
