Role Summary

The service Lab manager for the R&D Lab will be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Service Lab. This includes but is not limited to keeping the team morale as high as possible, keeping the team positive and energetic, Managing the service technicians, fabricators and electricians. We are looking for a strong leader that has manufacturing experience and can manage a world-class team of professionals. This team that will be managed will design and fabricate prototype service vehicles and ultimately run full production of equipping these vehicles with all tools and equipment needed to build the best service vehicles in the industry. They will need to work directly with the engineering and program management teams to come together from start to finish in the builds, delivering the best product possible to the client. To be successful in this role you must collaborative with others and always maintain an extremely positive attitude and great work ethic.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all local operations on the ground with a servant-leadership, hands-on mindset
  • This person will work closely with the program management team and engineering team to delivery prototypes and world-class, fully equipped service vehicles
  • Manage day to day operations of the fabrication and Mobile Service Upfit Lab
  • Ability to work in a team environment and help others
  • Critical thinking skills to devise solutions to new problems
  • Clean and organized worker to maintain overall shop cleanliness and organization
  • Ensure that programs and processes are developed, assessed, communicated, and administered in compliance with Rivian's objectives
  • Build and maintain work instructions for prototype vehicle assembly and retrofit projects
  • Manage and be accountable for high value inventory reconciliation
  • Work with the program management team and engineering team to determine build schedule
  • Define and manage KPI's that are aligned with near- and long-term goals at the shop and corporate level
  • Ensure production of high-quality vehicles with on-time delivery to our customer
  • Collaborate with Service Operations, Service engineering and all the Technical Service Operations teams
  • Work in partnership with cross functional teams regularly on implementing and continuously improving field service operations
  • Prioritize, plan, and coordinate logistics and meetings with internal teams and external parties
  • Lead and take ownership of management responsibility relating to hiring, performance management, and overall employee development planning
  • Build a Rivian culture that is inclusive, and maintain high levels of team morale
  • Responsible for ensuring the establishment of safe service business practices and processes
  • Define, establish, and enforce Rivian's high standards of safety, cleanliness, and organization

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of service work experience in the automotive industry
  • Valid driver's license with clean record
  • Strong automotive mechanical understanding
  • Strong technical and mechanical ability, preferred
  • Minor fabrication experience, preferred
  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Strong communication, multitasking, & inter-personal skills
  • Computer skills a plus (MS Office, Outlook, etc.)
  • Familiarity with issue tracking tools (Jira, Confluence)
  • SAP experience is a plus but not required

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $112,000 - $148,000 per year (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
