The Role

Provide legal advice and counsel to USTA business units

    Provide strategic and legal advice and support for all initiatives relating to USTA's administrative and business units and the USTA Foundation. Responsibilities include reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide variety of legal documents and agreements, reviewing collateral and copy, crafting policies, research, assisting with legal aspects of corporate compliance and policy matters, corporate governance, application of rules, regulations and grievances, not-for profit law, litigation, troubleshooting a wide variety of legal issues as they arise, and special projects, etc.
  • Contribute to the governance, legal compliance and the cultivation of positive relationships with the USTA's Board of Directors, USTA Section relationships and Volunteer Committees
  • Engage in extensive verbal and written communication with USTA clients (including advising all levels of USTA staff)
  • Serve as a member of USTA Legal Department team providing regular interaction, counsel and legal support as needed
  • Manage outside counsel as necessary
  • Keep current on industry-wide legal trends and developments to counsel business units and manage legal exposure proactively
  • Other such related duties as may be required
  • Occasional visits to other USTA offices in the metropolitan New York City area as well as the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. May be asked to attend the following: US Open and other USTA-related meetings away from the metropolitan New York City area throughout the year.
Who You Are
  • 4-7 years of applicable law practice experience; some in-house experience high preferred.
  • Member New York State Bar or ability to obtain NYC Bar in-house counsel registration
  • Excellent drafting/writing and research ability
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Self-starter and independent worker, with sound decision-making abilities, significant attention to detail
  • Business acumen with forward thinking, innovative mindset
  • Ability to effectively respond to inquiries for customers and business community
  • Ability to effectively manage outside counsel
  • This position is designated as "hybrid/flex" in Purchase, New York or New York City.

The expected range for the annual base salary for this position is $135,000 to $155,000 plus a potential ICP bonus. Any additional pay or benefits a person may qualify for, are not included in this range. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, their unique skills, and the location from which they will be performing the job.
