The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Technician A will support translational immunology research projects focused on organ transplantation and diabetes. The technician will assist with maintaining lab supplies and animal colonies, perform mouse screening (genotyping and phenotyping), processing human and murine samples, and assist with organizing research data.

Responsibilities



  • Perform techniques for processing human and mouse tissues and isolating lymphocytes from various sources, including blood, bone marrow, spleen, lymph nodes, intestinal biopsies and resections, lung bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and lung parenchyma.
  • Conduct immune cell phenotyping and antibody titration, including multicolor (>15) flow cytometry staining and cell acquisition using BD Diva LSR-II/Fortessa and/or Cytek Aurora flow cytometry systems. Analyze data using FlowJo and GraphPad software.
  • Perform DNA extraction from cells and fresh, frozen, or FFPE tissues, sometimes followed by PCR and electrophoresis.
  • Maintain sample storage, including freezing and thawing cells and recording samples using FreezerPro software.
  • Assist the lab manager with ordering, organizing, and monitoring general lab supplies, distributing antibodies to lab members for titration, and attending weekly research-in-progress meetings.
  • Assist lab members with experiments, as needed, under their supervision and with PI approval.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications




  • Two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program

  • One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and experience
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to assist in writing and reviewing protocols and method sections, as well as contributing to review articles.


Other Requirements




  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.


  • Medical clearance and participation in the medical surveillance program are required:

    • Work involves laboratory animals
    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure


  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
