ABOUT THE JOB (JOB BRIEF)

The Operational Risk Program Leader is a key director within Operational Risk Management ("ORM"), responsible for leading and overseeing critical processes occurring within ORM, including issues management, regulatory change management, project management, governance, and reporting. The Operational Risk Program Leader is responsible for identifying and providing guidance on emerging risks and industry trends and implementing ongoing enhancements of applicable programs.

The Operational Risk Program Leader must have a strong understanding of audit concepts and apply those to processes relating to issues management, sustainable closure and validation. He or she is expected to exhibit strong leadership, initiative, and agility. The Operational Risk Program Leader must have strong risk acumen and be skilled at developing, implementing and executing the operational risk program framework and processes. He or she must demonstrate leadership with various lines of business and proactively and productively coordinate with other groups within Key including the lines of business, Business Risk and Control, other risk management disciplines and internal audit.

This role reports directly to the Chief Enterprise Risk and Operational Risk Officer.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The Operational Risk Program Leader is responsible for
* Developing frameworks, programs and standard execution processes for operational risk functions, including reporting, metrics management, governance processes, project management, regulatory change, third party management processes, operational risk exam management, policies and procedures oversight and issues management.
* Assisting in the formulation and communication of a strategic vision for ORM that effectively manages and mitigates risk, establishes proper controls, supports business initiatives, and protects the company from risk.
* Developing and maintaining a strategic plan for ORM with regular update cadences
* Establishing standard meeting routines for ORM and facilitating standard formats for sharing information, key risks, industry trends, etc. across ORM teams and with the regulators
* Promoting an organizational culture that encourages acknowledgement and recognition of risks and places a high priority on risk management.
* Proactively interacting with senior and executive leadership regarding risks, issues, industry and internal trends, etc.
* Creating policies and procedures for ORM, inclusive of standard update cycles and owner review
* Assessing and reporting on the health of applicable programs.
* Identifying and implementing process improvements to strengthen operational processes within ORM, informed by staying abreast of financial services industry trends and regulations.
* Ensuring preparation for, and coordination and cooperation during, applicable internal audits and applicable regulatory exams.
* Effectively and professionally interacting with regulatory agency personnel and ensuring successful exam oversight.
* Supporting ORM issue owners' development and monitoring of mitigation activities.
* Applying audit concepts to processes relating to issues management, sustainable closure, and validation. Monitoring issues for remediation and escalation and verifying that issues identified have been effectively remediated.
* Working with various departments to develop and maintain an effective operational risk program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees and ongoing training for all employees and managers.
* Conducting targeted operational risk assessments to document current capabilities and gaps in controls.
* Overseeing the creation and distribution of metrics and reporting packages to various levels of the company, including leadership, Operational Risk Committee, Enterprise Risk Management Committee, Executive Team and Board of Directors.
* Reviewing corporate policies and training material to ensure content and audience address operational risks.
* Collaborating with other ORM and ERM functions and other teams within Key to execute ORM objectives.

* Leading content development and actively participating in Operational Risk Committee; participating in other governance forums as appropriate.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's Degree highly preferred, or the equivalent in years of experience
- A minimum of 10 years of experience as an operational risk professional, or commensurate risk experience within a business; Prefer advance degrees (Masters) and/or industry risk designations
- Demonstrated knowledge of key regulations and laws as required.
- Ability to lead multiple entity wide teams spanning numerous risk and compliance functions.
- Strong relationship management and leadership skills.
- Ability to effectively manage regulatory relations and effectively manage regulatory exams.
- Executive presence with the ability to effectively brief/communicate with all levels of Executive Management.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment.
- Sound decision-making skills; able to make decisions independently and quickly.
- Solid written and oral communication skills.
- Sound understanding of operational risks and risk management acumen.
- Strong research skills coupled with strong problem solving/analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
