Under the direction of the Diagnostic Imaging Supervisors performs and assists with diagnostic/therapeutic procedures for all ages of the population in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. The scope and nature of procedures and types of patients differ according to specialty areas. Performs a variety of duties related to ensuring a positive and expedient patient experience, as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school diploma or equivalent 2. CPR certification within 90 days of hire PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. Radiology experience preferred 2. Knowledge of current medical terminology CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Assists outpatients in changing from street clothes to gowns; transports to appropriate areas. Introduces self, and explains procedure to patient. Follows hospital policy to accurately verify patient identification. Performs clinical history interviews and screens patients for any contraindications for exam to be performed and/or any allergies to contrast agents or medications to be administered. Assists with moving patients on and off the procedure tables. Prepares exam table as appropriate for the exam to be performed including coil selection (MRI), and gathering additional supplies needed. Transports and/or transfers images to Supervisor/Radiologist for review. 2. Ensures order information is entered correctly into the information system. 3. Practices infection control techniques and prevents cross contamination of contagious diseases and nosocomial infections by keeping areas clean and disinfected and keeping full dirty linen bags stored in soiled utility room. 4. Utilizes safety practices to protect the patient, self, hospital property and equipment 5. Completes clerical responsibilities and cover shifts as a clerk when necessary to assist departmental needs. Assists with scheduling or re-scheduling additional imaging when requested. Completes necessary paperwork, as requested. 6. Pull images and matches patient demographics to ensure they are the same patient. Responsible for obtaining prior reports, images, H&P, prescriptions, labs, and other clinical data, as needed and assembling necessary paperwork, electronic images, prior to case being presented for radiologist review. 7. Correctly identifies and marks all diagnostic forms for proper reporting and storage. 8. Imports, uploads, digitizes, matches and corrects patient demographics in image information from PACS system. Prepares CD's of images 9. Completes request from outside vendors for previous images and reports via PACS information system. 10. Utilizes the computer system for order completion and scheduling accuracy. Completes all ordered tasks, reviews reports for correct content, etc. and communicates stat reports to ordering physicians office's. Faxes reports to the appropriate health care team. 11. Assists in maintaining proper supply inventories in the imaging suites on a daily basis; delivers, transports, receives and returns supplies to the storeroom according to department standards, as needed. Maintains all supportive and accessory equipment and supplies in an operable and clean condition. 12. Utilizes appropriate medical terminology as well as universal abbreviations, symbols, terms, and phrases relative to the imaging modality. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and re-positioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient's profile and appropriate algorithms. 2. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs. 3. Visual acuity must be within normal range. 4.
