Job Summary:

The Department of Radiology is seeking an Instrumentation Technologist I or II to join our team. The Instrumentation Technologist will have the opportunity to learn and develop expertise in technical aspects of clinical imaging. This position will work with medical physicists, technologists, and managers in support of quality and safety in medical imaging. Work will include operating systems in radiography and fluoroscopy, and can include work in nuclear medicine, or ultrasound. We are looking for technically skilled, well-organized, detail-oriented, and conscientious individuals. Previous training and experience with medical imaging preferred, but job-specific training provided. Skill and career-development encouraged, with possibilities to take on more advanced roles in partnership with Clinical Imaging Physics. Some flexibility in work hours is available. On- site work is required for access to imaging systems and overlap with physicists; Some potential for hybrid work may be available for report write-ups, and data analysis. Some travel required to UW-Health sites in the Madison area for testing of imaging systems. Able to schedule and manage one's work in accordance with regulatory or accreditation time frames, accommodating clinical schedules when needed, this can require occasional work outside of business hours.

Working under the direction of a diagnostic medical physicists, the Instrumentation Technologist will performing the following:

- Performing quality control testing of diagnostic imaging equipment in accordance with state and federal regulation, accrediting organizations, the equipment manufacturer's standards, or as instructed by a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP).

- Reviewing, providing follow-up, and assisting with problems detected during the routine quality control (QC) testing

- Maintaining records of routine QC testing and prepare reports.

- Working with vendor-applications' personnel on system optimization and/or implementation

- Identifying equipment malfunctions, system hardware and software failures

- Maintaining instrumentation used for quality control; arranging for repairs and calibration as well as schedule and arrange for shipment,

- Coordinating with biomedical engineers, vendor service and UW-Health personnel on testing following service and/or working toward proper imaging performance.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Radiology technology, medical physics, physical science, or biomedical engineering preferred

Preferred
Associate's Degree
Certificate program in biomedical engineering, electronics, radiologic technology, nuclear medicine technology or MRI preferred


Qualifications:

Required:
-Fluency in Microsoft Excel
-Ability to clearly communicate in testing reports, emails, phone, or in-person.
-Able to schedule and manage one's work in accordance with regulatory or accreditation time frames, accommodating clinical schedules when needed.

Preferred:
-Two years hands-on experience with radiology equipment quality control or biomedical engineering experience with radiology equipment
-Previous training and experience with medical imaging


License/Certification:

Required
Drivers License - Valid
State of Wisconsin valid driver's license

Preferred
AART - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
ARRT or NMTCB credentialed (if relevant)

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Depending on Qualifications
The starting salary for hire into the Technologist I title is $68,000 and the starting salary for hire into the Technologist II title is $79,000. Actual pay is determined at hire and is based on experience and qualifications.
