Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred in a related field.
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in budget management, program administration, or a related area.


Position Summary
The Assistant Director in the Office for Student Success and Achievement ( OSSA), a unit of Instruction, will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of various programs and initiatives aimed at supporting students. Collaborating with the director and other stakeholders, the Assistant Director will manage and innovate scholar, first-generation, and rural student programming. This position reports to the Director of OSSA.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Knowledge and experience of student success research and implementation-particularly related to first-generation and rural student development.
  • Familiarity of operations, organizational structures, and program development within complex research university settings.
  • Ability to take direction and effectively advance organizational priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail, with demonstrated success in project management, policy compliance, and meeting established deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with exceptional strategic thinking, relationship-building, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to apply the UGA Staff Competency Model to enhance team performance, delegate tasks effectively, and support ongoing team development to advance organizational success.
  • Excellent communication skills in written, oral, and visual formats.
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate positively with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.
  • Ability to collect data, develop learning outcomes, and conduct program assessments.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities with efficiency and accountability.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to supervise and mentor staff effectively.
  • Strong understanding of the work faced by first-generation and rural students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Supervision and Leadership

  • Recruit, onboard, and supervise staff members to ensure effective team performance. Provide mentorship and support to staff, enhancing the management of scholar programs, Thrive at Georgia: Bulldog Bridge, and initiatives for first-generation and rural students.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and community organizations, to create a cohesive support system for students. Key stakeholders include OSSA, the Office of Instruction, Academic Advising, Undergraduate Admissions, Student Affairs, the Career Center, and UGA colleges and schools.
  • Contribute to the implementation of strategic planning and program assessment to enhance work, ensuring it meets the needs of students and aligns with OSSA institutional goals
  • Attend Leadership Team meetings to engage in strategic discussions and contribute to organizational priorities.

Budget and Financial Management

  • Manage multiple budgets, ensuring accurate tracking, documentation, reporting, approval, and compliance with financial regulations for state, tuition, departmental sales and service, and Foundation funds.
  • Collaborate with the director and other key stakeholders to identify funding opportunities and write grant proposals.

First-Generation and Rural Student Initiatives
  • Actively engage in programs that support first-generation and rural students, addressing their unique needs and promoting their academic success. This includes National First-Generation College Celebration Day, First-Generation Graduation Celebration, ALL Georgia, and more. Collaborate with the director, staff, and other stakeholders to drive these efforts, ensuring they are effectively implemented and meet the students' needs.

  • Participate in OSSA, UGA, and external committees and events, as well as OSSA outreach, to promote student success.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices through professional development opportunities.
  • Teach UNIV Student Success courses as needed and participate in OSSA faculty meetings.
  • Assist with new work projects as assigned.
