About the School of History and Sociology at the Georgia Institute of Technology
The School of History and Sociology (HSOC) is a uniquely interdisciplinary unit with an intellectual culture of cross-pollination between sociological and historical scholarship, as well as work in science and technology studies. The School is united around a vision of scholarship and teaching that elucidates processes of local, national, and global change, past and present. This includes promoting a broader understanding of how racial, gender, and class inequalities intersect, as well as how technology, science, environment, and culture are intertwined. HSOC offers a Bachelor of Science degree in History, Technology, and Society and several joint undergraduate minors including Health, Medicine, and Society; Science, Technology, and Society; and Social Justice. At the graduate level, HSOC offers master's and doctoral degrees in the History and Sociology of Technology and Science. Atlanta, GA

The School of History and Sociology (HSOC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of United States History. The position will begin in August 2025. We seek a candidate who can teach both halves of the U.S. survey in person and remotely. The School prefers candidates who can also teach the history of women and gender in the United States.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach two undergraduate courses per semester, maintain an active research agenda, and engage in professional service at Georgia Tech.

A Ph.D. in U.S. history at the start of the appointment.

Preferred Candidates will have the following qualifications:

• Experience teaching surveys of United States history.
• Evidence of teaching excellence.

Student Success Criteria

• The ability to design and teach curricula that are responsive to a distinct student body.
• The ability to design and teach courses that take place in person and remotely.
• The ability to engage students in learning practices that support student success.
• The ability to engage in teaching and service activities within the School, the Institute, and the broader academic and professional communities.

Applicants invited to an interview will be asked to provide evidence of teaching excellence at the time of invitation. An earned doctorate is required by the start of the appointment.
