Role Description:

Senior Accountant supports a broad variety of accounting functions, at a senior level, which may include all or a subset of the following: financial reporting, fixed asset, internal controls, etc.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Designs, implements and maintains closing procedures, to facilitate timely and routine monthly closing of Authority books.
  • Manages fixed asset accounting for the Authority, specifically in areas of accountability, recording, reporting and compliance.
  • Directs, supervises, and trains staff in various aspects of measuring, recording and reporting all accounting transactions for the Authority in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements.
  • Reviews and approves general ledger transactions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Reviews and approves various account reconciliation.
  • Monitors, reviews and proposes accounting treatment for complex (e.g. issue of new bonds) or new accounting transactions (e.g. new pronouncement by regulatory or accounting body such as Government Accounting Standards Board-GASB).
  • Takes a lead role in Oracle Cloud system general ledger enhancements. and training.
  • Initiates work teams to resolve issues and produce work process improvements.
  • Oversee workflow of team members from other work units, to ensure completion of assigned tasks.
  • May occasionally be required to represent CFO, Controller or Accounting Manager to outside constituents, including D.C. Government jurisdiction users, EPA, large commercial and government customers.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.



Supervisory Responsibilities: Assist in the evaluation of the progress of the unit towards meeting goals and adjusts in objectives, work plans, schedules and commitments of resources.

Key Working Relationships: Interacts with co-workers throughout the Authority, representatives from federal and district agencies and the general public.

Required Experience:
Five (5) years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or similar field from an accredited college or university
Required Skills:
Expert knowledge of accounting/finance and GAAP
Strong analytical, planning and organizational skills.
Strong skills in communicating, orally and in writing.
Excellent computer skills with an in-depth knowledge of Oracle Cloud and applicable software programs (i.e. spreadsheets, database, etc.)
