Job Summary: The Global Health Undergraduate Program is hiring an Academic Advisor to work with current and prospective undergraduate students in the Global Health Major and Global Health Certificate, serving as a primary resource for a caseload of advisees. This position is part of the Global Health Advising Hub in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS), which aims to create an inclusive and welcoming climate for all students and utilize proactive and holistic advising principles to promote student development and success. The advisor in this role is invested in the growth and UW experience of their student advisees, familiar with global health topics, and thrives in a collaborative team environment with staff and faculty. This role will work with a diverse pool of excellent and motivated students, joining an advising team that values diverse experiences, interdisciplinary learning, sustainable futures, international experiences, teamwork, collegiality, and professional growth. The Global Health Advising Hub is located in Russell Labs within the Department of Entomology and CALS Academic Affairs. The Hub provides student-focused academic advising to a growing number of students in the major and a large number of students in the certificate, and also facilitates the success of both undergraduate programs. The advisor in this role will regularly meet with the advising team, as well as engage with faculty and advising colleagues within CALS and across campus. This position reports to the Advising Hub Associate Director. Responsibilities: Engages students in decision making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters such as course selection and degree requirements. Maintains appropriate confidentiality, updates student advising records, and contributes to the development and delivery of academic advising related events and programs. Works to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment. 10% Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures 40% Serves as a main point of contact for students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options, and refers students to appropriate institutional resources 5% Implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers 10% Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies 5% Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum 5% Proactively engages students as needed 5% Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college 5% Provides outreach and advising services to prospective and incoming students at summer orientation 10% Assists the advising team with developing and implementing improvements to advising services and resources, as well as with outreach and communication efforts such as newsletters, social media, and website updates 5% Serves as an ad hoc member of the Global Health Undergraduate Program Committee and assists the advising team with gathering data, analysis, and reporting on Global Health programs Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: - One year of professional experience in education, counseling, global health, or related field - Demonstrated ability building supportive and collaborative relationships with both internal and external colleagues and partners - Strong written and oral communication skills, and demonstrated ability to organize and communicate complex information effectively (e.g. professional emails, presentations, reports, etc.) - Organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to problem-solve, muti-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a timely manner Preferred Qualifications: - Experience working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, preferably with college-age students - Knowledge of global health topics and issues relevant to undergraduate students in this field of study - Experience in planning or coordinating curricular or co-curricular programs for students - Experience using word, spreadsheets, databases, advising and curricular software and programs - Experience handling confidential information, such as FERPA protected data Work Type: Full Time: 100% This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. Regular hours are 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional evenings may be required for this position. Appointment Type, Duration: Ongoing/Renewable Salary: Minimum $54,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The anticipated salary range for this position is $54,000 - $64,000. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
