Overview
Works directly with packing associates, assigning, and coordinating jobs within the department to prepare for shipping. Must be willing to cover for temporary vacancies which occur from time to time on other shifts.
Responsibilities
Responsible for following all safety rules and reporting any safety violations to supervisor. When able correct the safety violation immediately.
- Communicate and assign jobs and tasks to packing associates, based on production dispatch. Ensure productivity, rate attaint, quality standards and production schedules are met. Report disciplinary problems to Fabrication Supervisor.
- Develop a good working knowledge of the data collection and Syteline systems to include finished goods and supply inventory, sales order/dept. dispatch and employee activity reports.
- Understand and be able to perform all duties of packing/unpacking and well as the duties of a wrap and bander, and the ACO1 area.
- Train and orientate new associates to packing procedures, assigning "buddies" to new associates, and evaluating their progress.
- Maintain department in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Observe packaging operations and inspect containers to verify conformance to specifications.
- Start, adjust, and repair packaging machinery, or notify plant services.
- Requisition containers and other supplies for delivery to workstations.
- Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Alert team leader when deliveries have been completed for further assignments.
- Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of products.
- Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
- Confer with Supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.
- Perform and coordinate inspection and quality control activities and perform hands-on work related to activities in the department.
- Must, upon 24-hour notice, be willing to cover for vacancies on other shift due to posted positions, absentees, or vacation for the position of Shift Team Leader or Leadsperson.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience and Certifications and Licenses High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three to six months related experience and/or training in packing procedures; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Skills and Abilities
- Ability to establish credibility and be decisive while recognizing and supporting the organization's preferences and priorities.
- Familiarity with applicable quality standards and safety standards including OSHA requirements.
- Possess organizational skills necessary for record keeping, follow through, etc.Possess basic computer skills to facilitate implementation and maintenance of shop floor reporting to include training of associates in necessary skills and software.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and complete control charts.
- Ability to work effectively with tools and equipment such as small hand tools, measuring equipment and computers. Ability to set-up and operate various machines such as press brakes, drills, taps, mills, buffing/burring, routers, and saws.
