Position in this function is responsible for supporting the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of company initiatives by providing clinical education and training to frontline teammates, supervisors and managers. Supports initiatives including, but not limited to, patient care workflow redesign, pilot projects, skills competency validation and training, new teammate orientation expansion, and expansion of the organization's electronic health information system. Participates in the development, training and evaluation of clinical policies and procedures. Serves as a clinical educator, trainer, and internal consultant for the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate Optums commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every internal and external customer
  • Serves as a resource to assist with the training needs associated with Care Delivery Team initiatives
  • Provides initial, ongoing and remedial clinical training support of appropriate teammates in collaboration with the immediate supervisors or managers
  • Provides initial and ongoing clinical training support of appropriate teammates on the Electronic Health Record (EHR) as needed in collaboration with the technical trainers
  • Participates in the planning, design, implementation, revision and delivery of training curriculum, job aides, resource manuals and skills validation tools
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical preceptor program
  • Develops clinical competencies used for on-the-job training as well as skills validation tools for both new hires during New Employee Orientation (NEO) and existing teammates during annual competency validation events
  • Participates in evaluating, elevating, standardizing, and implementing annual regional clinical competency fairs
  • Develops remediation tools and programs for clinical teammates for learning deficits identified during training
  • Serves as a consultant for clinical supervisors with clinical performance evaluation concerns
  • Designs and conducts "train-the-trainer" programs
  • Works in collaboration with the training department to develop clinical training sessions
  • Receives clinical teammates feedback and evaluations regarding training programs and utilizes feedback to revise and improve current programs
  • Attends mandatory annual skills validation and Annual Clinical updates that may take place during evening hours and weekends (selected Saturdays only)
  • Participates in the planning, design, implementation of the Annual Clinical Update training curriculum, job aides, resource manuals and skills validation tools which take place during selected evening hours and weekends (selected Saturdays only)
  • Serves as a member of Nurse Steering Committee, Clinical Education Committee, and Clinical Policy and Procedure Committee and other committees as assigned
  • Uses, protects, and discloses Optum patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
  • Attends training and meetings which might include traveling to other Optum markets (out of State but within the 50 United States of America)
  • Travels to all Optum sites to perform site visits, audits, clinical training and mentoring teammates
  • Cross trainings to work in other departments or other duties as assigned by supervisor /management
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:



  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing
  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license through the State of California
  • 3+ years of nursing experience in ambulatory care setting
  • Basic Life Support for Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) - (100% online certification is not acceptable)



Preferred Qualification:



  • Master's degree in nursing
  • 3+ years of nursing experience in an acute care
  • 3+ years of experience as a clinical trainer or educator
  • Experience training in medical facilities
  • Experience with a clinical information systems



The hourly range for this role is $34.42 to $67.60 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
