Position summary: Responsible for providing technical assistance to non-engineering professional staff. Opportunity may exist for full time, part time and/or job-sharing employment for this position. This position is contingent upon the client's acceptance.

The hourly rate for this position is $30.00 - $35.00, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. We notice that we receive a wide variety of applicants and recognize that the person selected may be less experienced or more experienced. If so, the actual pay rate may vary from the estimate provided.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Manage and oversee daily operations of the Traffic Management Center (TMC) for the City of Syracuse
  • Responsible for TMC staffing and supervision of Operators
  • Makes notes and document operations to assure traffic and emergency situations are handled appropriately
  • Perform all Operator duties when the Operator is not on-duty
  • Perform daily start-up of systems; identify error messages, and report outages or problems
  • Act as point of contact for TMC staff and third parties requiring assistance

Required Skills

  • Ability to work in the field and office utilizing software products such as Microsoft Office, Adobe and others.
  • Be familiar and experienced with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills

Required Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in traffic operations, traffic signal management, and traffic management center operations or similar management of software systems and their associated operations and functionality.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic mapping applications and knowledge of local roads and geography.
  • A valid New York State Driver's license is required.


Preferred Experience



  • Familiarity with traffic operations software associated with Traffic Management Center operations for pre-timed, actuated and adaptive signal control or similar dispatching experience;
  • Experience with electronic traffic control devices, NEMA and 2070 spec hardware;
  • Experience with data/telecommunications used in the traffic engineering industry, such as fiber and wireless networks, serial and Ethernet;
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Level I qualification;


Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time at the client's facility in Syracuse, New York. Office work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Work is performed in the field 5% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, walking as needed. Field work consisting of site visits may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
