Another Source's client, Oregon Health and Science University Foundation, is recruiting a Senior Director of Development to join their team on-site in Portland, OR.

About the role:

The Managing Senior Director of Development, Community Programs leads efforts to generate substantial philanthropic support for Oregon Health & Science University through the OHSU Foundation, with a focus on OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital, the Department of Pediatrics, and other child health initiatives. This role oversees the strategic management of annual programs, fundraising events, corporate partnership development, and donor engagement strategies, while providing leadership and direction to a dedicated team.

The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $122,000-$152,000

What you will be doing:

60% Management and Strategic Program Leadership:

    Supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff; establishing clear performance objectives, sharing strategic direction and vision, and motivating the team to achieve aspirational goals.
  • Developing the strategy and annual plans necessary to achieve community programs goals.
  • Directing and facilitating strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate and community donor prospects.
  • Demonstrating leadership and collaboration in working with peers, support staff, OHSU staff, and faculty.
  • Collaborating with internal partners on the development of communication and marketing plans and fundraising materials, including proposals, solicitations, acknowledgments, and reports.
  • Working closely with OHSU Foundation staff to develop and maximize strategies to secure gifts including annual support, principal-level gifts, and gifts from various constituents, such as corporations, community partners, and foundations.
  • Partnering with Doernbecher Philanthropy Board, OHSU faculty, and staff to identify and pursue new fundraising events and program opportunities and new corporate partners.
  • Actively engaging in developing relationships within the local, regional, and/or national philanthropic community; playing an active role in applicable associations or organizations and participating in conferences and trainings as appropriate.
  • Leading efforts around new business development opportunities as they relate to programs and events benefiting Doernbecher.
  • Representing the organization at internal and external events, as appropriate.

40% Direct Fundraising Activity:

  • Managing a corporate and community donor portfolio and providing fundraising leadership individually and as a member of a team.
  • Setting strategy and overseeing planning and execution of all aspects of assigned events/programs, including Doernbecher Freestyle.
  • Building business relationships with corporate and community partners, closely working together to achieve long-term goals and objectives.
  • Developing strategies for engaging, stewarding, and upgrading donors with the goal of increasing corporate major and principal level gifts and expanding the donor pool.
  • Presenting information about Doernbecher and respective programs to interested groups.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years of previous development experience.
  • Strong experience in multiple areas of philanthropy, including major gifts, planned gifts, campaigns, annual giving, corporate or community programs, and/or volunteer management.
  • Experience managing and mentoring a team.
  • Experience in health care/education is a plus.
  • Knowledge of institutional advancement and advanced fundraising techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices, trends and strategies in program areas.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to manage, track and prioritize multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to build credibility and trust across diverse constituents, including internal stakeholders and partners, physicians and academic leadership, business leaders and volunteers.
  • Ability to organize time effectively, establish priorities and manage a large number of tasks simultaneously.
  • Sound judgment and a deep commitment to high professional standards and ethics.
  • Strong degree of accountability, decision-making and ownership of programs, projects, and outcomes.
  • Proven knowledge of management best practices and success in managing, mentoring, retaining and recruiting a diverse team.
  • Compassionate and culturally responsive; maintains an ability to work well with diverse internal and external individuals and groups.
