Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL) Accelerator Technology & Applied Physics (ATAP) Division has an opening for a Postdoctoral Scholar to work in the ALS Accelerator Physics Program (ALS AP). The position requires engagement in pioneering research at the crossroads of machine learning and accelerator physics, aimed at improving the performance and capabilities of our light source facility. Modern complex accelerators at large-scale scientific user facilities face increasing challenges as new machines push the boundaries of technology in the pursuit of higher performance. Working with a team of accelerator physicists and engineers, the position requires tackling these challenges by applying machine learning techniques to accelerator tuning and control. You will study beam-based diagnostics to optimize machine performance as well as explore and develop advanced control methods for injectors and storage rings. Additionally, the position requires using ML methods to analyze operational data and develop advanced automated machine startup and commissioning tools. What You Will Do:
