Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, customers, and suppliers.

  • Performs routine assignments of substantial variety involving pneumatic and hydraulic (instrumentation) systems with associated components including valves, piping, tubing, fittings. Performs precision technical tasks including: disassembly, cleaning, assembly, and functional testing to documented procedures and capturing complete process results as per Component Processing Facility (CPF) and NASA requirements. Certified Component Technician has passed VR requirements and has demonstrated technical competence in the four major areas of CPF operations. May perform assignments in primary facility or field environment.


Qualifications

REQUISITE SKILLS:

  • Possesses the proficiency and/or certifications required by all personnel under his direction and may perform any or all of the duties of a Component Technician, Certified.
  • The Shop Lead is a Component Technician who, at the direction of management, will assist in the performance management of the Component Processing Facility as a working Shop Lead.
  • Assigns and directs work performed by personnel under his direction. Participates in the performance of the work required.
  • Ensures that specific, realistic performance goals are met by CPF technical team.
  • Continuously monitors and reports work schedule progress and assures that schedules are met.
  • Ensures the proper recording of all work performed by subordinate personnel through use of the appropriate forms.
  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with prescribed methods, procedures, schedules and standards.
  • Utilizes PC and acquisition systems to acquire and control test chambers and interface with devices-under-test to provide data collection and facilitate daily operations.
  • Actively promotes customer objectives and maintains customer relations through a positive customer service attitude.
  • Provides technical assistance to other technicians as needed and integrates support of other technicians into effective project support.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The candidate must be able to complete a background check for test complex and facility access.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with state of the art technology.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
  • Must have, and maintain, a valid driver's license. High School Diploma or GED equivalent, plus five or more years of direct progressive related experience and demonstrated ability. Position requires comprehensive knowledge of technical expertise gained through work experience in field of specialty. Must be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with state of the art technology.
  • Must be capable of interpreting and understanding complex mechanical drawings and schematics of various components and performing to detailed written tasks to accomplish refurbishment and testing of sophisticated pressure control and regulation components.
  • Must have the ability to be trained in the basics of shop analysis processes for sampling and maintenance of CPF Cleanline and Cleanroom operations.
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude with experience utilizing precision measurement devices for refurbishment of complex mechanical systems.
  • Must have basic understanding of pressure systems, cryogenics, control mechanism, and PPEs needed to work with hazardous tasks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lift minimum of 30 pound load up from the ground frequently
  • Walk six hours per day
  • Bend and stoop six hours per day
  • Work overhead with minimum 20 pound load
  • Push and pull frequently throughout the day
  • Walk up/down stairs frequently
  • Stand seven hours per day
  • Climb ladders and scaffolding
  • Wear PPE gear six hours continuously (steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves)
  • Tolerate extreme cold/heat for three hours continuously
