Position Summary

As an Energy Services Technician, you will be a key member of our team, helping to manage and maintain our cutting-edge energy management and control systems across campus buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Energy System Operations: Operate and maintain campus energy management and building automation systems to ensure peak efficiency and performance.
  • System Installation & Commissioning: Oversee the installation and commissioning of electronic control systems, including new and retrofitted systems.
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Perform diagnostics and quality assurance inspections; troubleshoot system malfunctions and ensure code compliance.
  • Energy Monitoring: Analyze and interpret energy consumption data using testing and metering equipment to validate energy-saving results.
  • Project Collaboration: Participate in energy project planning and implementation with other Energy Services and Facilities team members.
  • Control System Programming: Modify building automation system programming to optimize performance and energy conservation.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Support the development and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programs using computerized systems.
  • Instrumentation Calibration: Calibrate and maintain instrumentation used in energy monitoring and control systems.
  • Contractor Oversight: Monitor third-party work on energy-related systems to ensure quality and standards compliance.
  • Inventory & Equipment Management: Maintain tools, testing equipment, and supplies used in daily operations.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must obtain a New Mexico journeyman license in HVAC or Electrical within six (6) months from date of hire specifically, in one of the following disciplines: Journeyman Refrigeration (JR), Journeyman Gasfitter (JG), Journeyman Plumber and Natural Gasfitter (JPG), Journeyman Boiler Operator (BO1), Journeyman Boiler Operator (BO2) or a Journeyman Electrician (JE98), Journeyman Plumbing (Jp), Journeyman Gas (Jg), ES-3J Sound and Intercommunication and Electrical Alarm Systems, EE-98J Electrical ((includes all ESJ Specialties), EE-98) Electrical (includes all ESJ Specialties), EL-1J Electrical Distribution Systems, including transmission lines, ES-3 Sound and Intercommunication and Electrical Alarm Systems, EE-98 Electrical (includes ER-1 and ES classifications) & EL-1 Electrical Distribution Systems, including transmission lines.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and skills in facility lighting controls.
