Job Description:
Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Train and Station Operations Trainer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be the person responsible to assure the a project delivery, leading the appropriate O&M Requirements Management, across the overall Project Lifecycle, jointly working together with all Project Departments, coordinating and preparing the necessary documentation at both System and SubSystem level, arranging the training, ensuring the proper interface management between the Design and Build team and the O&M team, as well as assure return of experience to the Product Engineering. The position is based in Pearl City, HI, USA.
Accountabilities:
- Develops and administers a comprehensive train and stations training program to meet the full range of train and stations objectives. Assists training manager in developing training material to support programs.
- Conducts theoretical and practical hands-on training, both in the classroom and in the field for subjects such as station operations, train operations, passenger vehicles (trains), switch operations, platform screen gates, o+m operating rules, safety rules, customer service, and other relevant topics to train and stations staff.
- Uses current training techniques (e.g., lecture, demonstration, student participation, question and answer, student evaluation, etc.).
- Instructs, judges competency of (certifies), and mentors new and existing train operators.
- Instructs train and station employees to perform daily activities.
- Instructs train and station employees in normal, degraded, and emergency procedures.
- Ensures that all train and stations employees have satisfied and maintained required competencies and qualifications.
- Administers online testing via the learning management system (LMS).
- Participates in emergency drill exercises as directed by the Training and Competency Manager.
- Supervises and evaluates train and stations staff including testing, competency assessments, certification, and recertification, confirming that all tasks outlined can be performed successfully by means of written and/or practical testing.
- Ensures compliance with operations procedures, safety, and operating rules.
- Evaluates, determines and initiates remedial action for employees that demonstrate they cannot perform their job independently (not competent).
- Confirms the availability of classroom space, shop space, tools and test equipment, diagnostic laptops, trains, automatic train control rooms, track occupancy, and visual aid equipment at time and place of specified training.
- Ensures appropriate training records are maintained within the learning management system (LMS).
Required Skills/ Knowledge:
- Current or past certification as a train or light rail vehicle operator.
- Ability to communicate technical information to a group or individual in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to develop training material (syllabus, lesson plan, PowerPoint, written test, competency assessment) for maintenance functions.
- Ability to quickly acquire the knowledge of passenger vehicles, rules, SOP's, safety rules, collective bargaining agreements, personnel policies and procedures, and instruction, training, and testing techniques.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, and our client.
- Ability to work variable hours, shifts and days.
Desired Skills/ Knowledge:
- 4 years' experience in train or light rail vehicle operations and/or training, or a combination of the two.
The salary range for this position is $74,000 - $111,000.
Final pay is determined by the candidate's experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
