Outdoor Learning and Creative Arts Aide

Job Objective: The Outdoor Learning & Creative Art Aide is responsible for overseeing hands-on learning experiences in the Outdoor Learning Center and leading engaging craft activities during camper free time. This role involves caring for camp animals, managing the bead program, and ensuring a fun and educational environment for all campers.

Essential Functions:

Outdoor Learning Center Management



  • Lead interactive learning experiences related to nature, conservation and creative art
  • Lead the feeding and care for the animals in the Outdoor Learning Center animal program ensuring their well-being and safety
  • Assist with management of crew member assigned Outdoor and Animal care work
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment for learning areas and animals



Creative Arts & TSAO Bead Program



  • Plan and lead craft activities during camper free time
  • Manage the TSAO bead program, ensuring beads are organized and opportunities to the bead program are presented every week at camp
  • Assist campers and staff with bead-related questions and maintain TSAO bead program records



General Camp Responsibilities



  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for campers of all backgrounds.
  • Communicate with camp leadership about any supply needs or program updates.
  • Follow all camp safety policies and procedures.



Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Experience: Minimum one year working with children in an educational or camp setting preferred.

Certifications/Licenses: None

Skills/Abilities:



  • Basic knowledge of animal care and crafting activities
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Supervisory Responsibility: In an assist role supervising crew member

Physical Requirements: Speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity to be able to perform craft and bead activities; lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 15 pounds; requires bending, squatting and walking; standing up to 6-8 hours per day; Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving: Driving is not required but preferred. Staff with a valid license from the state of residence will apply for approval through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program. If approved, the candidate might be asked to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: Work is performed on the camp grounds and does include week days and weekends based on the summer camp and divisional schedule. Minimum 20 hour work weeks.
