Summary:

Under general supervision of the Manager of Medical Imaging for the BHMGPC Division operates x-ray bone density and computerized tomographic scanner equipment and related equipment to produce images of any designated anatomical area. Makes independent decisions as required for organization and scheduling of services. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the geriatric adult and adolescent patient. Fosters patient and family centered care and nursing services in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital*s mission vision values with consideration of the life span including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Consistently applies the corporate values of respect honesty and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence in improving the health status of the people of the region through the provision of customer-friendly geographically accessible and high-value services within the environment of a comprehensive integrated academic health system. Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Provides explanation and answers questions about the technical aspects of the procedure. Ensures safety and comfort of patients. Screens patients for proper medication withholding diet preparation and drug and food sensitivities to avoid possible adverse reaction to examination. Interviews patients and reviews medical referrals and records.

Prepares supplies for injection of contrast medium. Operates a high-pressure injector.

Can operate and navigate all pertinent IS software related to job functions such as but not limited to LifeChart PACS Terarecon etc. Operates computerized tomographic scanner x-ray and bone density equipment in order to produce

images of any designated anatomical area. Checks and tests calibrating equipment for proper operation for CT scanner and Bone Densitometry unit. Performs warm-up and down procedures.

Positions patient and equipment and selects proper patient based preprogrammed protocol. Monitors patient and equipment during imaging procedure for any changes in condition and for proper equipment operation.

Processes images and inputs required information in PACS system. QA*s and verifies images in PACS system for radiologist review.

Performs specialized non-routine computer functions as required.

Collects and completes computerized and manual records on patient data such as patient history number images and types of examinations. Assigns and verifies appropriate charge codes. Prepares reports and maintains other required records of services rendered.

Analyzes equipment problems and malfunctions and makes minor repairs and adjustments. Consults service engineer as needed. Arranges for necessary equipment maintenance adjustments or repairs by contracted services. Maintains records such as calibration results for quality control service reports equipment notices installation reports utilization statistics incident reports and equipment performance standards.

Trains or assists in training staff and students maintaining required records.

Monitors and orders department supplies and equipment as needed.

Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.

Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.

Participates in in-service educational programs for technical staff and other hospital support groups keeping current with required in-service.

Performs other related duties as required.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Completion of at least two years of formal training in a School of Radiologic Technology or equivalent. Maintains a current XR and CT license to work in the State of Rhode Island. Maintains ARRT and advanced level CT certification by the ARRT. Must be multimodality technologist (CT BD XR).

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years* Radiologic experience and one year of CT scan experience preferred with competence in starting IV*s.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians* offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.

Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. Subject to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Incumbent functions independently within a broad scope of department policies and practices; generally refers specific problems to manager only where clarification of department policies and procedures may be required.

None.
