Interventional Rad Tech - Up to $20,000 Sign On Bonus

Summary:

Under the general supervision of the interventional radiologists and the Manager Medical Imaging and following established procedures perform vascular and interventional exams. Ensures functional integrity of equipment. Fosters patient and family centered care and nursing services in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital's mission vision values with consideration of the life span including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

Responsibilities:
Assists the radiologist in the diagnosis of diseases as requisitioned by patients' physician. Assists radiologist in carrying out interventional and angiographic procedures.

Maintains aseptic conditions during special procedures.

Performs scrub duties and circulating duties during special procedures involving selective catheterization of arteries perfomed in conjunction with the use of the digital and radiographic equipment.

Sets up surgical trays supplies and equipment. Anticipates needs for instruments and passes instruments as required. Observes and reassures patient prior to and during surgical procedures.

Prepares and drapes patient. Positions patient. Observes for reaction to iodine contrast injection. Checks peripheral pulses periodically. Assists in the set up of the EKG/pressure monitor when needed. Follows prescribed techniques and procedures and has emergency drugs and equipment available as necessary. Sets up and operates high-pressure injector. Assists fellow technologist in operation and sets up of all diagnostic equipment. Adjusts equipment as required to insure proper operation.

Adjusts immobilization devices assembles equipment supplies as required. Positions and operates equipment for required length and intensity of exposure. Observes patient and reports pertinent information.

Washes cleans and sends instruments to Central Supply. Prepares laboratory and equipment (cleaning with proper hospital disinfectants) for next scheduled procedure. Makes requests and stocks required supplies.

Maintains expiration dates as per Shelf Life of Supplies Policy A-11.

Sends images to PACS develops film as necessary. Prepares reports and maintains records of services rendered. Ensures proper charge codes are on the requisitions. Orders and tracks on RIS. Ensures proper input in HI-IQ data system.

Trains or assists in training new staff members.

Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area.

Calls service and logs data for equipment when needed.

Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.

Performs all essential functions with consideration of the age-specific needs of the geriatric adult and adolescent patient. Fosters patient and family centered care and imaging services in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital's mission vision values with consideration of the life span including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

Performs duties of X-ray technologist involving the most advanced X-ray techniques using both fixed and portable equipment.

Performs other related duties as required.

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Two years of formal training in a School of Radiologic Technology or equivalent. Must be Registered Radiologic Technologist with current license to work in the State of Rhode Island. Three months training in aseptic techniques and training in specialized catheterization studies.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of the aging processes human development states and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

One year of Angiography experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians' offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including safety equipment and protective clothing.

Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day. Subject to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
