POSITION SUMMARY:

The Employee Relations Manager leads the employee relations function, overseeing a team of specialists while also managing their own portfolio of complex employee relations cases. This role ensures compliance with labor laws and balances the needs of the business with a strategic, non-traditional HR approach. Key responsibilities include addressing employee concerns, conducting investigations, and overseeing leave of absence and workers' compensation programs. The manager also plays a critical role in developing policies, updating the employee handbook, and delivering training on employee relations topics. In addition to team leadership, the Employee Relations Manager partners closely with other HR functions and regularly reports on employee relations trends and activities to senior leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Leads and manages a team of specialists, providing guidance and support to ensure effective handling of employee relations issues through striking an appropriate balance between supporting the needs of the business and consistently supporting policy and labor law.
  2. Creates and maintains employee relations policies and procedures that comply with legal requirements and align with organizational goals. Ensures compliance with labor laws, regulations, and company policies.
  3. Manages their own portfolio of complex employee relations cases and addresses and resolves employee complaints and grievances in a timely and fair manner.
  4. Oversees investigations into employee misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and other workplace issues. Implements programs and initiatives that enhance employee morale and foster a positive workplace culture.
  5. Provides training to managers and employees on employee relations topics, including conflict resolution, communication skills, and workplace ethics.
  6. Oversees the administration of leave of absence programs, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
  7. Manages the workers' compensation program, including claims processing, return-to-work programs, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  8. Develops, updates, and maintains the employee handbook, ensuring it reflects current policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  9. Reviews and responds to Employee Emergency Fund (EEF) requests to verify employee standing.
  10. Prepares and presents reports on employee relations activities and trends to the VP of HR and other senior leaders.
  11. Works collaboratively with the HR leadership team on additional HR projects to support the overall HR strategy.


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field; or combinations of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in employee relations or human resources management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • In-depth understanding of labor laws and regulations to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks.
  • Familiarity with HR software and systems for managing employee records, tracking issues, and generating reports.
  • Strong ability to lead and manage a team, set goals, and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to build strong relationships, resolve conflicts, and maintain a positive workplace atmosphere.
  • Capability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address and resolve employee concerns and grievances.
  • Ability to provide training on employee relations topics and develop programs to enhance employee engagement.
