Job Title Scientific Writer / Editor, Senior

Job Summary - The Scientific Writer/Editor, Senior will play a pivotal role in the development, maintenance, and communication of critical scientific data within the client's program. This role involves collaborating with researchers, data managers, and the program's stakeholders to ensure the quality and clarity of scientific documentation, including research papers, reports, manuals, and digital content. The ideal candidate will have experience in scientific writing and editing, a deep understanding of data management principles, and the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Writing & Editing



  • Prepare and edit scientific manuscripts, technical reports, user manuals, and research publications for submission to scientific journals, conferences, and other external communication channels.





  • Edit content for clarity, coherence, grammar, and adherence to scientific standards, ensuring that materials are accessible to both expert and general audiences.





  • Work with the client's program team to develop content for public-facing documents, ensuring accurate representation of the program's progress and data.





  • Provide clear, consistent documentation of methodologies, protocols, and data analysis procedures for internal and external stakeholders.



Data Documentation & Reporting



  • Contribute to the creation of data management protocols, including data collection, quality control, and metadata standards, in alignment with client's objectives and NIH requirements.





  • Develop periodic scientific reports, including data analysis summaries, progress reports, and updates to stakeholders.





  • Assist in the preparation of reports for submission to federal agencies and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with NIH's documentation and data-sharing guidelines.





  • Create documentation to support the quality control system for vaccine data, validating research data and generating routine QA/QC reports for stakeholders.



Program Communication & Coordination



  • Collaborate with the client's team to maintain and further develop the client's public and private portals, ensuring that scientific data and reports are accessible and well-documented.





  • Support internal communications regarding program progress, data submissions, and other relevant program activities.





  • Assist in the creation of training and instructional materials for client's investigators and data managers, including SOPs, data submission templates, and user guides.





  • Coordinate communication efforts between the client's investigators, NIH staff, and external stakeholders to foster collaboration and share scientific findings.



Training & Technical Assistance



  • Develop, refine, and deliver training materials for the client's program team on data submission, data management, and use of related software tools and systems.





  • Provide ongoing technical and scientific support to investigators and stakeholders regarding data management systems and processes.





  • Assist in the organization and execution of training sessions, webinars, and seminars to support client's participants and ensure compliance with data management protocols.



Collaboration with External Entities



  • Collaborate with other NIH-supported programs to share data, metadata, and scientific findings in alignment with FAIR data-sharing guidelines.





  • Participate in ongoing efforts to ensure interoperability of data between client and other relevant databases such as ImmPort, IEDB, and the Bioinformatics Resource Centers (BRCs).



Publications & Reporting



  • Participate in the preparation of client's-related scientific manuscripts, reports, and presentations for publication and conference presentation.





  • Assist with the preparation of regular updates, status reports, and annual progress reports to communicate the achievements of the client's program to stakeholders.



Qualifications



  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related scientific field (e.g., Biology, Immunology, Bioinformatics, or Data Science).





  • Minimum of 3-5 years of scientific writing and editing experience, preferably in the biomedical, life sciences, or public health sectors.





  • Familiarity with scientific research methods, data analysis, and data management principles.





  • Experience in writing and editing scientific reports, manuscripts, and grant applications.





  • Experience working with NIH-funded projects or similar large-scale, federally supported programs.





  • Familiarity with data-sharing principles (e.g., FAIR data principles) and experience in supporting data integration across multiple platforms.





  • Experience in coordinating scientific workshops, seminars, or training sessions.





  • Proficiency in scientific writing tools (e.g., LaTeX, EndNote, or similar tools).





  • Knowledge of data management systems, metadata standards, and databases, such as ImmPort, IEDB, and Bioinformatics Resource Centers (BRCs).





  • Understanding of HIPAA Privacy Rule, FISMA, and other relevant federal policies.





  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with an ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to a wide audience.





  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and well-structured documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.





  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.





  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment, working closely with scientists, program managers, and external partners.



Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $81,430 to $149,854 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The target salary is $ 121,861per year for this role. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
